Job Purpose:
Housing Support Assistants work across our housing service and community support services alongside our Housing Support Officers, delivering practical and emotional supports to clients as part of their overall support plan. The successful candidate will act as a key member of the team, ensuring the day-to-day safe running of the service, helping clients maximize their housing security, building connections in the community, and supporting them for move-on and independent living, as appropriate.
This involves delivering practical supports to assist people in areas such as health and well-being, self-care, personal administration, and home management as necessary, using a trauma-informed approach.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Clients
* Assist Housing Support Officers in following through on actions with clients identified through key working and support planning.
* Demonstrate a capacity to work with clients who may be distressed, frustrated, and in crisis in a calm, effective, trauma-informed manner.
* Engage clients with tasks aimed at maximizing their well-being and personal dignity.
* Support clients' move to independent living.
* Maintain clear communication with clients, fostering a positive and constructive relationship.
* Assist clients with practical tasks such as bill payment, home management, self-care, and health and well-being.
* Support colleagues with client involvement initiatives within the service and the wider community.
* Comply with administrative requirements, including record maintenance and logging interventions.
* Undertake any other duties assigned by the line manager.
Health and Safety
* Act as appointed First Aid person as required.
* Carry out all duties with reasonable care and ensure optimal infection control.
* Follow designated fire procedures and report health and safety concerns.
* Prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of clients at all times.
* Participate in routine maintenance, cleaning, and health and safety inspections.
Service Delivery
* Work efficiently to meet the needs of a diverse caseload.
* Commit to delivering a high-quality service in accordance with recognized best practices.
* Engage professionally with clients and other support agencies.
* Work culturally appropriately with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
* Log and record all interventions systematically, utilizing tools identified by GSC.
* Adhere to Health and Safety guidelines and best practices.
* Follow the Guidelines of Children First when concerns around children’s safety arise.
Training
* Attend and participate in required training courses.
* Identify areas for future training needs.
General
* Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, volunteers, clients, and Simon Community business.
* Adhere to all Simon Community Policies and Procedures.
* Attend staff meetings as appropriate.
* Provide support to other Services within Galway Simon Community as necessary.
* Provide HSA support in Youth Services and/or other services as required.

Person Specification:
Essential
* Relevant qualification to a minimum of FETAC level 5 (e.g., Care Assistant/Care of the Elderly).
* 1 year experience in a similar role within a social care setting.
* Experience in record keeping and report writing.
* Full alignment with Galway Simon Community values and mission.
* Valid and full clean driver’s license; access to own vehicle for work-related purposes.
Desirable
* Health and safety training.
* Previous experience of Lone Working.
* Experience working with vulnerable people.
* Experience using a Trauma Informed Approach.
