About Blackrock Health Hermitage Clinic
The Hermitage Clinic is a private hospital providing a full range of medical and surgical care across a broad spectrum of specialities. Radiation Therapy provides a range of services including External beam Radiotherapy, CT and Cyberknife Therapy and this role is important in making a significant contribution, developing and maintaining best practice in Radiation Therapy services.
The Role
The role is responsible for the provision of specialist advice and support in line with standards of Radiation Therapy Practice. As a key member of the frontline management team, the Radiation Therapy Clinical Specialist will demonstrate professional, managerial and leadership skills and facilitate effective communication with colleagues in the hospital. The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.
Main Responsibilities
Operations
1. Demonstrate evidence based practice through decision making and apply it to complex cases.
2. Ensure that the Radiotherapy service delivered to patients meets professional and European standards of practice.
3. Provide advice and support to Radiotherapy and multidisciplinary colleagues on clinical practice issues.
4. Provide clinical leadership and instruction.
5. Be accountable for the treatment unit.
6. Maintain accurate information systems for clinical data in accordance with departmental and hospital policies.
7. Conduct on treatment assessment of patients.
8. Assessment of pre-treatment images and approval of verification images.
9. In-depth assessment of treatment plan.
Learning and Education
1. Provide professional and personal development opportunities for all nursing and support staff working with the relevant Learning and Education specialists to develop an appropriate programme of learning and education based on a planned (individual, department and organisation) training needs assessment.
2. Oversee that the requirements of the relevant professional body are met and upheld including the development of an expanded scope of radiotherapy practice.
3. Maintain accurate records of all study leave and education resources used.
4. Develop and implement an enhanced staff competence assessment relevant to the Department.
The Person
Essential Requirements for the Ideal Candidate:
1. Possess appropriate qualification in Radiation Therapy: BSc Radiation Therapy.
2. Be registered with the Radiographers Registration Board – CORU.
3. Have had at least five years satisfactory post qualification experience and have proven clinical expertise.
4. Have experience of or be prepared to participate in research.
