Job Spec: INTERN Electrical Engineer
Introducing Timoney
Timoney is a global leader in the design of specialist driveline systems for off-road vehicles. We are experts in Vehicle Dynamics, Independent Suspension, and Axle Systems. Synonymous with short, fast-paced development programs, Timoney provides complete vehicle design solutions across construction, firefighting, vocational, defence, mining, and special-purpose vehicle markets.
Based in Navan Ireland, Timoney has been in business for over 50 years and has exported to over forty countries worldwide.
Due to continued expansion, including exciting electric and hybrid technology projects, Timoney is now looking to hire an Intern Electrical Engineer to join our team to design electrical systems and powertrains for next generation off-road vehicles.
The Role
Based in Navan, the role will involve working alone or as part of a design team on internal and client projects. Projects will be spread across multiple areas of electrical engineering required to develop all aspects of vehicle suspension, driveline, and powertrain systems for conventional and hybrid-electric vehicles. The role will include training to master new skills specific to vehicle electrification and electrical systems.
The successful candidate will be expected use their existing skillset and develop new skills to:
Determine vehicle propulsion and power distribution requirements and select appropriate components including inverters, motors, power converters, batteries and engines.
Design high and low-voltage circuits based on customer specifications using 3D or schematic modelling software.
Design wiring harnesses for conventional and hybrid axle and driveline systems.
Prepare specifications of electrical systems to ensure that the installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
Select and integrate software and hardware systems to electrify traditionally mechanical driveline systems including electric axles, steering and suspension systems.
Analyse vehicle performance in MATLAB, Simulink, Adams (or equivalent). Calibrate control systems and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Develop and apply control system validation test methods, tools, and processes to ensure system functionality, safety and robustness.
Develop CAN bus and hardware signalling protocols to communicate with other systems on vehicles.
Testing and validation of electrical and electronic hardware including axles, controllers, sensors, and actuators.
Provide integration support and assist customers with queries during vehicle development programmes.
On-site commissioning of electrical systems, prototype hybrid-electric axles and vehicles.
