Social Care Worker Position at Camphill Communities of Ireland
Camphill Communities of Ireland is seeking a highly responsible and reliable Social Care Worker. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with people with intellectual disabilities and promoting their independence.
Purpose of Post
The successful candidate will be committed to the residents' welfare and wellbeing, providing person-centred support and empowering them to make choices and decisions that promote their autonomy.
This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies. The ideal candidate will be flexible, adaptable, and able to lead by example in promoting a positive and supportive environment.
The Social Care Worker will be responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of the service reflect the ethos and values of Camphill Communities of Ireland, and that all staff are meeting the needs of the individuals supported.
Main Responsibilities:
Advocacy & Rights
1 Respect each person's autonomy and dignity, upholding their human, legal, and constitutional rights.
2 Facilitate and empower individuals to make choices and decisions that promote their independence and self-advocacy.
3 Support individuals to develop their self-help and social skills, enabling them to achieve maximum personal autonomy.
4 Enable individuals to participate fully in their community, through the use of generic community facilities.
Person Centred Support for Living
5 Develop and implement individualised person centred plans, supporting individuals with aspects of daily living, including occupation, leisure activities, communication, behaviour support, independent living skills, and personal care.
6 Act as a Key Worker for specific individuals, developing and implementing their person centred plan and participating in regular reviews.
7 Coordinate medical appointments, ensuring timely access to healthcare services.
8 Ensure a healthy and nutritious diet is provided, taking into account individual preferences and dietary requirements.
9 Develop and implement training, leisure, social, and personal activities for individuals within the service area.
10 Foster and encourage individuals' self-help and social skills, enabling them to achieve maximum personal autonomy.
11 Ensure accurate and up-to-date records are maintained, including personal needs assessments, risk assessments, incidents, and notifiable events.
12 Report any concerns or issues promptly to the Person in Charge (PIC).
Management and Leadership
13 Ensure compliance with legislative, organisational policies, and regulatory requirements, including Health & Safety Act and HIQA regulations and standards.
14 Coordinate the house team, ensuring adequate cover for resident support and organising schedules as required.
15 Coordinate all staff and volunteers within the house team, assisting with induction and training processes.
16 Contribute actively to the team while providing consistent and quality support for vulnerable adults.
17 Be familiar with and ensure adherence to CCoI policies, procedures, and codes of practice.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Applicants must hold a minimum of a Level 7 on the QQI Framework - BA in Social Care Studies or equivalent qualification in Heath or Social Care, with 1 year's experience of working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
An understanding of current policy and developments at national and sectoral level in relation to Social Care within disability services is essential.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency in IT, and possession of a full driver's licence and availability of own car are also required.
