Role Profile: We currently have an opening for a Deputy Head of Manager Research to join our Manager Research and Selection team at Mediolanum. The successful candidate will have responsibility for developing and maintaining a buy list of funds used to support the creation of a broad range of fund-of-fund portfolios. The role also involves working closely with fund-of-fund portfolio managers to identify the best fund ideas according to our Fund Selection process, the objective being to deliver strong performance for clients and help enable products to rank well within their peer groups.
The Investment Team is growing and its scope is expanding thereby providing a thriving environment for career progression. We are looking for someone with fund research experience gained across one or several asset classes, with a focus on equity and/or fixed income research.
Duties:
1. Responsible for the identification and selection of equity and/or fixed income managers for addition to the buy list.
2. Responsible for supervising selected strategies on the buy list and recommending removal according to our monitoring process.
3. Engage and work alongside portfolio managers in the ongoing monitoring of existing and prospective fund investments.
4. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the fund selection and monitoring process, particularly with a view to adding sound quantitative techniques which can build good efficiencies and deliver a more focused approach.
5. Share with the wider investment team, research into active manager trends and highlight key strategic papers of leading asset managers.
6. Mentor other team members with scope to take on management responsibilities when required.
7. Maintain and develop our manager research database and records.
8. Work collegiately with the team across other asset classes as required.
9. Support compliance, regulatory and legal functions as the need arises.
10. Ad hoc projects as required.
Skills & Competencies:
1. A strong interest in investment markets and a high degree of proactivity.
2. Sophisticated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
3. Knowledge of Bloomberg, FactSet, Morningstar Direct and Style Analytics is an advantage.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Minimum 10 years relevant work experience within the investment industry.
2. Relevant 3rd level qualification.
3. CFA qualification or equivalent.
4. Track record of selecting outperforming managers with a focus on equity or fixed income.
5. Experience in coaching or mentoring a team is an advantage.
6. Familiarity of the main asset classes with a strong knowledge of Equities including associated styles / approaches.
7. Ability to understand and communicate the key risks stemming from investment strategies particularly to senior stakeholders / an Investment Committee.
