About the business unit
The Buildings and Cities Unit (BNC) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key sectors: Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation, and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.
Overview of role
Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Environmental Scientist / Technical Principal to join the planning and environmental team in Ireland.
Working on complex projects, the role will include:
1. Working collaboratively with engineering colleagues and clients to pre-empt risk, inform design (including nature-inclusive design), and mitigate by avoidance.
2. Working on feasibility and optioneering stages informing preliminary design, statutory consent, and construction stage projects in the energy, water, and transport sectors both onshore and in the maritime area.
3. Client-facing and client management.
4. Stakeholder engagement.
5. Interface management across multi-disciplinary teams.
6. Supporting and mentoring colleagues.
7. Incorporating lessons learned to continuously improve service offerings and delivery.
8. Controlling cost and programme.
9. Resource management.
10. Preparing/reviewing high-quality optioneering reports, environmental assessment reports (including Environmental Impact Assessment Reports and Environmental Reports), and statutory particulars.
Candidate Specification
The successful candidate will possess:
1. A degree level or equivalent education in a related field.
2. Experience in a Lead Coordinator/Project Manager role for the delivery of planning and environmental services in Ireland.
3. Excellent reporting ability with examples available.
4. In-depth knowledge of Planning and Environmental law in Ireland.
5. Experience in delivering long-linear projects.
6. Experience in offshore renewable energy projects preferred but not essential.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Strong data and document management skills.
9. A broad understanding of planning and environmental risks and the initiative to identify those risks and develop solutions.
10. A collaborative and supportive approach to working with both colleagues and clients.
11. A commitment to technical excellence.
