Experienced Commercial Underwriter Wanted for Portfolio Underwriting Manager Role
Abrivia are currently recruiting for an Underwriting Portfolio Manager to join our client, a large general insurance company, working on a hybrid 2-3 day in office model. This role will report directly into the Head of Product Underwriting and have 2-3 direct reports.
The ideal candidate will have a strong commercial underwriting background but will be interested or have previous experience working across pricing, new products, market analysis etc. You will play a key role in the future direction of the Underwriting team as they look to expand into new areas of business.
Your Role:
* As the Product Owner for Commercial Products, you will take a keen interest in and develop a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the product portfolio, including pricing, customer outcomes, and growth.
* You will ensure that commercial products are tailored to meet customer needs and adhere to all regulatory requirements.
* You will lead the implementation of Underwriting Product Oversight and Governance across the commercial product suite.
* You will play a key role in annual budgeting, strategic planning, and initiative development.
* You will use and enhance Management Information (MI) to track performance and outcomes, ensuring they are monitored and acted upon.
* You will manage acceptance criteria and decision-making materials within the Underwriting Governance Framework to support the achievement of business strategy.
* You will oversee the control environment in commercial underwriting, ensuring quality standards are met and promoting continuous improvement and efficiency.
* You will support underwriting teams with clear portfolio plans and provide guidance on quality underwriting and risk appetite.
Your Skills:
* A minimum of 7 years of management experience in the insurance industry, with a deep understanding of portfolio management principles and the marketing of commercial insurance products.
* Minimum CIP qualified
* An enthusiastic insurance market expert, with a vision paired with drive, enthusiasm, and a can-do attitude.
* Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in report writing and presentations.
* Exceptional numerical, analytical, and planning abilities.
* Highly organised, with the capability to manage multiple competing priorities.
* Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and a strong desire to develop knowledge and experience.
* A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively with others to achieve objectives.
