Responsibilities & Duties
1. Plan and implement media engagement for a wide variety of fundraising, advocacy and humanitarian campaigns.
2. Write press releases, opinion articles, magazine features and other media written materials to support the organisation's campaigns.
3. Help identify opportunities to develop the organisation's public profile on key issues, leading the organisation's media engagement response to external events and political processes.
4. Arrange broadcast interviews, preparing and briefing colleagues for interviews.
5. Develop and maintain strong links with a wide range of journalists across all media platforms.
6. Contribute to the organisation's digital communications and media channels by writing blogs and social media content to support campaigns or initiatives.
7. Offer support to various teams to ensure the effective delivery of cross-organisational plans.
8. Organise and accompany media on overseas visits.
9. Other duties as assigned by the Communications and Media Manager including content gathering, media photocalls and event management.
Skills
1. Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce high-quality articles, statements and promotional materials to tight deadlines.
2. A strong knowledge of the Irish media environment and a proven ability to build and maintain extensive relationships with journalists.
3. A keen awareness of evolving media trends and a proven track record of adapting accordingly.
4. Exceptional organisational skills with an ability to prioritise workload effectively.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills - capable of building good working relationships and influencing upwards at all levels of operation.
6. A proven self-starter capable of developing initiatives as well as taking on assigned work.
7. Enthusiasm for travel.
8. Good team player, willing to be flexible, assist and share knowledge.
9. Ability to think creatively and strategically.
Experience
1. Significant professional experience (3 years+) in national journalism in Ireland (print, broadcast or online) and/or PR/Communications.
2. Third level qualification in a related field and/or significant journalism or PR experience.
3. Understanding of the Irish NGO sector.
