Responsibilities of the role will include but are not limited to:
1. Close out of the remainder of the Musgrave sustainability fund by the end of 2024.
2. Deliver the net zero 2040 element for independent stores and target of 42% reduction by 2030 including the annual tracking of scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions reduction.
3. Reduce retailer’s energy bills and deliver savings through promotion of instore equipment upgrades such as refrigeration, lighting, solar panels, etc.
4. Continue the rollout of solar panels across the Musgrave and independent retailer estate delivering up to 60 projects per year ranging from Centra, SuperValu, Marketplace and Musgrave distribution center sites.
5. Create business cases for delivery of sustainability initiatives in store.
6. Develop strategy and potential rollout plans for future sustainability initiatives (e.g. EV car chargers).
7. Continue energy monitoring of stores to create an up-to-date profile of usage and to derive opportunities to create additional carbon and electricity savings.
8. Prepare and deliver the Musgrave SEAI Better Energy Communities grant each year.
9. Assist retailers in other grants such as the SEAI non-domestic microgeneration grant, SME and Enterprise Ireland grant programs and liaising with relevant state bodies.
10. Manage relations with key sustainability suppliers (solar, refrigeration, lighting) including quality, costs and performance criteria, conducting annual reviews of each supplier.
11. Liase with the Group Head of Sustainability to help deliver the appropriate elements of the Musgrave Growing Sustainable Everyday strategy.
12. Participate in cross-functional teams such as the SuperValu and Centra sustainability working groups, retailer profitability, Musgrave Energy Transformation among others.
13. Ensure the entire Store Development team is up to speed on sustainability measures and what is needed to deliver net zero 2040.
14. Develop and maintain relationships with our retail partners and engender a clear understanding and appreciation of the Musgrave model with retailers.
15. Lead and develop a high performing sustainability team ensuring that appropriate development and succession management systems are in operation.
16. Assist the Store Development operations manager in ensuring we maintain our high levels of sustainable engagement scores within the team.
The ideal candidate:
1. Third Level qualification in Environmental Science / Engineering / Construction or Project Management / Sustainability / Commerce / Business.
2. Experience in large scale rollouts delivering commercial return.
3. Commercial acumen in ensuring delivery of business cases.
4. Experience managing multiple suppliers and projects.
5. Good communicator.
6. Financial acumen.
7. Computer literate in MS Excel, Project, and Word.
8. Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
9. Experience in rollout of cost-saving initiatives.
10. Results-driven.
