Overview
Applications are invited for a temporary, 12 months, position of Regulatory Affairs Senior Scientist based in Little Island, Cork. The overall responsibility of this role is to lead governance on chemical regulations, GHS and the transportation of hazardous materials for PepsiCo globally. The successful candidate will also actively lead the chemical horizon scanning and drive a positive environment through external advocacy and stakeholder engagement. The position will report to the Regulatory Affairs Manager – Chemical Safety.
Responsibilities
* Conduct literature and toxicological database search to assist with classification of chemical substances and mixtures.
* Lead PepsiCo hazard classification programme for substances and mixtures using various classification schemes set out by the UN, including GHS and Transport of Dangerous Goods.
* Lead PepsiCo SDS authoring programme.
* Support PepsiCo’s obligations under chemical hazard communication regulations based on UN Global Harmonised System (GHS) on labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) globally.
* Keep abreast of regulatory proposals through horizon scanning.
* Provide information and direction to Senior Management on potential threats to the business.
* Ensure that regulatory obligations are communicated to plants/distribution centres in a timely and effective manner.
* Lead execution of global strategies/policies/plans to ensure regulatory compliance.
* Deal swiftly with regulatory queries related to chemical hazard communication from global manufacturing and distribution locations.
* Assess regulatory parameters for new innovations in a timely manner using internal systems.
* Ensure that regulatory obligations applicable to PGCS are communicated to manufacturing facilities in a timely and effective manner.
* Lead the Chemical change management by updating and maintaining the Chemical watchlist.
Qualifications
* Qualification in Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related discipline.
* Experience working in an industrial setting relating to regulatory affairs and chemical hazard communication.
* Knowledge of international hazard communication regulations (GHS, CLP, HCS, WHMIS) and the global regulatory environment on the transportation of hazardous materials (IATA, IMDG, ADR, DOT).
* In-depth understanding of chemistry and a working knowledge of toxicology, ecotoxicology and risk assessment.
* Knowledge on one or more Safety Data Sheet related systems such as 3E Generate.
For the purposes of external advertising we have called this role an Regulatory Affairs Senior Scientist. However please note that the internal job title the successful candidate will be R&D SRA Sr Scientist.
