The Department of Architecture at MTU, Cork offers programmes in Architecture, Architectural Technology and Interior Architecture. All our programmes are committed to educating our students in developing inspiring environments that are socially responsible, technically sophisticated, and fundamentally sustainable. The department delivers leading programmes in Interior Architecture and Architectural Technology in the award-winning Architecture Factory facility on the Bishopstown Campus, and the Architecture programme (jointly with UCC) through the Cork Centre for Architectural Education (CCAE) in the city Centre. The Department of Architecture is a constituent Department of the School of Building and Civil Engineering (in addition to the Department of Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering and the Department of Construction). The advertised position is for Architectural Technology/Interior Architecture. The position will involve lecturing and module delivery at undergraduate levels including in modules such as design studio, technical design studio, graphic representation, technology, computer skills and theory. The ideal candidate will have strengths in design, tectonics/detailing and sustainability. It is desirable that the candidate would also undertake research activity including postgraduate student research supervision. Level 9 Research Masters and Level 10 PhD opportunities are also available. Department staff are active contributors to the Schools vibrant Sustainable Infrastructure and Research and innovation Group (SIRIG) Duties of the Post: The Assistant Lecturer will play an active role in the academic direction of courses including teaching, research, academic assessment and academic administration. The appointee should carry out such duties as are assigned by management including but not limited to: (a) Teaching such assigned classes as deemed appropriate by management of the Munster Technological University (herein after, the University), day or evening, up to 630 hours per annum including supervision of post-graduate students where appropriate, (b) Carrying out assessment, monitoring and evaluation of examinations work, and providing an academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities, (c) Providing academic input on existing and new courses and course development, (d) Engaging in research, consultancy and development work as appropriate, (e) Participating in committees appropriate to courses and meetings convened by management, (f) Maintaining appropriate records and making available information as required by management, (g) Engaging in promotion including student recruitment as appropriate, (h) Participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of academic quality assurance arrangements, (i) Participating in appropriate activities necessary to the development of their department/school and of the University, (j) Directing and supervising the work of Tutor/Demonstrator and taking academic responsibility for the academic standards of this work. When an Assistant Lecturer is supervising a Tutor/Demonstrator a reduction in teaching hours will be applied on the basis of a one-hour reduction per three hours demonstration/tutorials supervised. The performance of these duties will require attendance in addition to class contact hours during the normal working week. Qualification Requirements: Essential: A relevant level 8 Honours Primary Degree (second class or higher) from a recognised degree awarding authority, majoring in degree level studies in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Interior Architecture or a cognate discipline. AND/OR An equivalent relevant professional qualification obtained through examination. AND Not less than three years of relevant experience subsequent to obtaining the above qualifications.
