About our group:
Seagate products help more people store, share, and protect their valuable digital content. With 97% of the world’s information being stored on hard drives, the rapid growth of digital data makes Seagate more important every day.
Seagate is where the future is read and written, with continuous innovation proving that a hard drive is not “just” a hard drive. Find out how we are shaping a new era of storage as we craft the datasphere.
As an industry leader, Seagate provides unique career opportunities to be part of today’s major technology shifts. The UK Manufacturing site has been open for 30 years this year. We have over 1200 people working in our facility which is among the most advanced in the world, in the design, development, and volume manufacturing of recording heads.
We are excited to announce that we are recruiting photonic designers to help deliver our next generation photonic technologies. If you’re excited by new technologies, are naturally creative and passionate about seeing ideas come to life then this is the ideal research and development role for you.
About the role - you will:
* Collaborate with an established team, driving groundbreaking projects and leveraging Seagate’s unique materials technologies to push the boundaries of photonics technology.
* Assist in developing advanced photonic device technologies and materials, including integrated photonics laser device technologies, to meet product performance and reliability requirements.
* Apply and develop photonic integrated circuit and light delivery simulation strategies and methods.
* Use FDTD, Lumerical Interconnect, LaserMOD/Harold etc. and other similar methods to simulate laser integrated photonic systems.
* Layout photonic devices (e.g., waveguides, couplers, filters) and simulate circuits using computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
* Simulation of photonic devices with multiphysics simulation software, including thermal and mechanical effects.
* Design photonic integrated circuit prototypes for successful integration into prototypes and customer product demonstrators.
About you:
* Experienced in collaborating with colleagues in design and process areas to deliver integrated solutions and validate optical material performance.
* Knowledgeable in opto-electronics and integrated photonic devices and systems.
Your experience includes:
* Project planning and collaboration with adjacent teams and internal customers.
* A good communicator with excellent presentation and written skills.
* A dedicated team player who works effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
You might also have:
* Experience with multiphysics and similar methods to simulate integrated photonic systems, Fabry-Perot, and advanced laser designs.
* Experience designing photonic integrated circuit and laser prototypes for successful integration into customer product demonstrators and packaging.
* Skills in validating photonic device performance and reliability through performance analysis, failure analysis, and customer feedback analysis.
