Environmental and Quality Manager
Supporting our businesses and teams to help our clients solve their most complex challenges and deliver the highest quality design requires the support of a best-in-class integrated management system, which applies to all live projects and supporting processes that meets the requirements of the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
The Environmental and Quality Manager role within Arup will be responsible for leading environmental and quality and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and standards. Provide governance and specialist advice across the organisation and manage the maintenance and assurance of the Integrated Management Systems (IMS) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
This role will seek to continuously improve our Integrated Management Systems to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations and ensuring continued Third-Party Certification. Driving consistency of process and approach across all four offices of the Arup Ireland practice that aligns with our policies and strategies and mitigates any risks identified in our business operations.
This role will support continued enhancements in our business process and workflows, adapting them to suit any new business models and services while maximising our use of automation and digital workflows.
The Environmental and Quality Manager role will involve managing, implementing, updating, monitoring, and reporting on the quality and environmental aspects of our Integrated Management Systems (IMS) including the following detailed activities:
·Formulate policies and procedures for the Quality and Environmental Management System in compliance with Arup Europe procedures and the international ISO 9001 and 14001 standards.
·Ensure Arup Ireland remains compliant with all environmental legislation including changes to regulations.
·Coordinate and prepare for internal, second party (client) and external (ISO9001/14001/45001) audits and analyse actions required to close out any non-conformances.
·Lead local communication in relation to Quality and Environmental including maintenance and updating of our local SharePoint.
·Collaborate with Europe Region HSEQ team to implement a consistency of approach and continuous improvement and attend the Quality and Environmental Committee meeting.
·Monthly quality reporting to Management including measurable objective input into the annual Management Review.
·Responsible for arranging local Management Reviews including highlighting issues requiring attention and action.
·Responsible for coordinating annual reporting of environmental metrics data in Ireland.
·Support a pro-active approach to the identification of Arup Ireland sustainability improvement opportunities, and coordinate tasks to minimise Arup’s environmental impact.
·Organise quarterly meeting and co-ordinate work of quality and environmental management systems teams, including internal auditors, in each of the four Arup offices.
·Maintain and update Arup Ireland Office Environmental Aspects Register, with risks and potential environmental impact.
·Co-ordinate monthly monitoring and measurement of office environmental aspects for all four Arup Ireland offices on energy, waste, consumables and transport.
·Promote environmental initiatives within Arup’s ‘A Better Way’ programme.
·Regularly review the effectiveness of management controls, identifying new actions where necessary.
·Maintain and update the Arup Ireland Business Continuity Plan.
·Represent Arup Ireland externally in agreed stakeholder forums e.g. Engineers Ireland and Business in the Community.
·Carry out monthly new staff induction informing our new Arup member about our Integrated Management Systems (IMS).
·Organise and manage annual innovation and design excellence competition.
·Share & Skills Representative for Ireland with Arup University, attending quarterly meetings with other European offices reporting on Arup Ireland activities.
·Provide support for Arup staff seeking Professional Accreditation.
·Liaise with Human Resources on related training, professional memberships and accreditations.
The successful candidate will have:
·Will have attained a NFQ Level 8 or equivalent in a related discipline, environmental, engineering or Health and Safety.
·External recognised chartership / accreditation (Membership of a recognised Management Systems Institute (e.g. CQI) is preferred.
·Detailed knowledge of ISO9001, 14001, and 45001 and legislation related to same. Relevant formal training is an advantage.
·Working knowledge of an integrated management system and ability to drive continuous improvement.
·Familiarity with Third-Party certification requirements and processes.
·Ability to work independently, across numerous disciplines and self-directing.
·Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills.
·Experienced in the development of policies and procedures.
·Strong influencing and persuasive skills.
