Overall Purpose of Job

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
1. Participate as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.
2. Facilitate and deliver quality patient care by effective and efficient management of available time and resources, demonstrating professional leadership and clinical expertise.
3. Advance current nursing practice in accordance with NMBI guidelines.
4. Participate in ongoing professional development within the department in line with current and future service demands and advances within Anaesthetic nursing.
5. Communicate with the Clinical Coordinator and provide support as required.
6. Manage day-to-day operational requirements and collaborate closely with members of other departments.
7. Ensure the operation of safe equipment and adequate supplies in an efficiently arranged physical setting.
8. Adhere to internal controls for the department.
9. Participate in all regulatory and mandatory survey processes within the Hospital.
Clinical Responsibilities
1. Familiarize with and adhere to The Professional Scope of Practice Framework (NMBI 2000).
2. Ensure that the patient's needs are individually assessed.
3. Plan and implement a care plan and evaluation process.
4. Cater to patients in the optimum clinical environment, adhering to all nursing and hospital-wide policies and guidelines.
5. Delegate tasks appropriately based on the skill level and knowledge of the individual.
6. Document patient information in a professional, legible, and timely manner.
7. Deputise for the Clinical Coordinator as appropriate.
8. Participate in departmental problem-solving and system improvements.
9. Adhere to Standard Precautions and appropriate handling of infectious waste.
Interrelationships
1. Maintain good working relationships with other departments and with physicians, patients, families, and outside agencies.
2. Communicate during the shift with the relevant Clinical Coordinator as required.
3. Demonstrate the ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities.
4. Participate in ongoing consultation and collaboration with physicians and other care providers to maximize patient outcomes and unit-specific goals.
5. Participate in unit-based and interdepartmental QI activities.
6. Assist co-workers whenever needed.
7. Be cross-trained and may be allocated to PACU as needed.
Personal & Professional Responsibilities
1. Maintain a professional portfolio.
2. Utilize opportunities to educate patients and their families.
3. Attend appropriate study days and courses.
4. Be a preceptor and/or supervisor to students and newly appointed staff.
5. Participate in performance reviews with the Nurse Manager.
Educational Responsibilities
1. Identify and contribute to the continual enhancement of learning opportunities in the clinical area.
2. Participate in the clinical induction of all new nursing and support staff.
3. Assume responsibility for own learning and development needs.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Frequent periods of concentrated attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs. All employees are expected to remain flexible to meet the needs of the hospital, which may include floating to other departments as patient needs fluctuate.
Person Specification
Qualifications
1. NMBI Registered General Nurse licence.
2. BLS & ACLS certification.
Experience
1. Minimum of 1 year post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting, preferably in Anaesthetics.
2. A management course is desirable.
3. Proven clinical ability and communication skills.
