The Portfolio and Project Management (PPM) organization enables Lilly to achieve top tier industry growth and portfolio value by bringing life-changing medicines to millions of patients and lasting impact to human health around the world. What you will be doing:
The Sr. Director, International Business Unit (IBU) Development COO will be responsible to:
1. Lead the early phase TA TETRADS (a cross functional team within the IBU that sets TA strategy and priority within the IBU) and have a key role in IBU governance.
2. Monitor and influence the early phase portfolio strategies and use judgment to connect the IBU early phase TETRAD with the global development team.
3. Create and implement a cohesive IBU strategy for assets in development Ph1-Ph3 for NME & NILEX, both a therapeutic area/disease state level as well as at an asset level
4. Apply drug development expertise and excellent communication skills to clearly frame and understand the implications of the global development strategies as related to the IBU.
5. Negotiate between the global team and the IBU to ensure a global development strategy that considers geographical needs to enable simultaneous submissions and commercial success and escalate to Sr. Leaders when trade off decisions are required.
6. Provide input into global Commercial Decisions and Ph2/Ph3 plans and represent the consolidated IBU interests with a portfolio focus.
7. Partner with regulatory to determine an assets regulatory strategy and global submission sequence in IBU countries.
8. Work across boundaries to ensure stakeholder management occurs at all levels including the BU, IBU, and MDU leadership.

1. Lead the creation of a cohesive IBU development strategy considering geographical needs and ensure the Global Development/Asset Plans take the IBU strategies into account at both the TA/disease state, and asset, level.
9. Understand the TA/disease and global asset strategies and be able to communicate these strategies clearly and succinctly to the IBU.
10. Lead the negotiations between the global teams and the IBU, highlighting key decisions, gaps, or critical issues that would impact simultaneous submissions and commercial success.
11. Influence and drive to resolution, escalating to the appropriate decision makers or governance if conflict/barriers arise.
12. Ensure an appropriate lead time for IBU teams to provide credible and robust contributions to development plans and commercial decisions.
13. Challenge the IBU/BUs thinking to optimize the strategy and drive to innovative solution development.
14. Partner with global team in NME and NILEX Commercial Decision preparations and documents, ensuring IBU input and deliverables are communicated with quality and on time.
15. Play a critical role in creating an environment of cooperation and mutual respect where diverse ideas are welcomed and critical to achieve IBU objectives.
2. Lead the early phase TETRAD and delivery of the Integrated IBU Requirements aligned with the global teams’ plans.
16. Lead/chair the early phase TETRADs (governance) who identify IBU needs/inputs, align and set effective strategies and make timely decisions for the development of assets within the TA.
17. Drive to consolidate the IBU perspective into a singular IBU recommendation for the global team and for leadership.
18. Plan/mange IBU governance interactions, communicate clearly and frame the decision needed, and drive to resolution.
19. Lead the IBU to adapt development strategies/plans in light of new external/internal data and information.
20. Anticipate and resolve barriers by bringing creative solutions to enable success of the early phase TETRAD.
21. Own the IBU early phase TETRAD risk management strategy and plan for the team and be accountable for full disclosure of risks to management.
22. Consistent and timely documentation of decisions, recognize tradeoffs, and recommend alternatives for mitigation plans.
3. Monitoring the Portfolio and Project Management
23. Monitor and understand the early phase portfolio to update the IBU with a 24 month look ahead on key global inflection points across the TA, e.g., key data redouts, NILEX strategy, CD timing.
24. Use judgment and a portfolio lens as to when key development decisions require IBU input into Ph2 and Ph3 plans.
25. Understand and incorporate the concepts of portfolio management into the early phase TETRADs.
26. Coach and mentor others in the development of portfolio and project management skills, and knowledge in drug development.
27. Provide project management and leadership for special initiatives that are cross functional in nature and advance LRL drug development and PPM capabilities.

Qualification Requirements:
38. 10+ years of work experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or drug development, with a strong technical background in drug discovery, development, or delivery
39. Advanced graduate degree (PhD, MD, PharmD) in a health-related, scientific field is preferred.
40. Higher degrees or certifications (e.g., MS., MBA, Masters in Project Management or PMP) will also be considered.
