Financial Controller
My client, a well-established multi-site retail and eCommerce business based in the Midlands, is seeking a Financial Controller to join their team. The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified accountant with over 5 years of experience at FC level in Retail or eCommerce. You will provide financial leadership, oversee ERP implementation, ensure accurate reporting and account management, and act as the key financial contact for the STL. This role offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise with a commercial mindset, driving strategy and maintaining strong financial controls. It is a permanent, full-time onsite role that transitions to hybrid working once established. A competitive salary and benefits package are offered for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
1. Manage the day-to-day finance operations.
2. Ensure efficient and cost-effective payment of suppliers weekly.
3. Prepare accounts for auditors.
4. Manage invoicing processes.
5. Create, monitor, and report weekly/monthly dashboards showing operational performance for SLT.
6. Design projects to replace manual processes with automated systems.
7. Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flows.
8. Collaborate with the buying team to maximize GP potential through seasonal supplier budgets.
9. Manage labour budgets and planning.
10. Drive the quarter-end closing process.
11. Liaise with colleagues to ensure accurate financial reporting across all areas.
12. Ensure balance sheet accounts are accurate, promptly resolving issues.
13. Provide commentary on balance sheet and P&L variances to budget.
14. Conduct analytical reviews of key expense variances, with recommendations.
15. Deliver quality financial reporting and analysis to identify trends and improve performance.
16. Manage capex spends, ROI, and cost/benefit analyses, reporting monthly on spend.
17. Conduct monthly reviews to improve budget accuracy.
18. Produce timely and accurate department margin analysis monthly.
19. Provide business data to all branches and departments to enhance net margins.
20. Manage tax compliance, working with external tax advisors.
21. Liaise with external auditors for financial statement audits.
22. Prepare statutory returns such as VAT, PAYE, and PRSI.
23. Assist in the preparation of annual accounts.
Requirements
* Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or similar).
* Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience.
* Experience in Retail or eCommerce is essential.
* Good knowledge of local accounting standards, IFRS, and payroll calculations.
* ERP implementation experience is desirable.
* Experience in group reporting for statutory purposes according to deadlines.
* Strong retail financial management skills.
* Proven track record of implementing change and new processes within the finance function.
