About the Role
We are seeking experienced Operational Specialists to join our Database team in Prague, Ostrava, or Brno. In this role, you will work alongside global colleagues from Denmark and the Philippines, as well as vendors and partners. You will play a key role in advising, building, operating, and supporting our customers' databases worldwide.
Your responsibilities include the day-to-day operations and maintenance of PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB databases, providing 2nd/3rd level support, managing patching, participating in service windows, and adhering to ITIL Change Management processes. Additionally, you will be an essential part of the Operations Centre, participating in daily and weekend on-call duties.
About the team
The Database Operations department comprises 41 skilled professionals worldwide, specializing in databases such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL. Our team provides both operational and consultancy support to our customers. While most work occurs during standard business hours, occasional scheduled tasks outside normal hours, as well as daytime weekend on-site duties, may be required as part of our on-call rotation.
Your Responsibilities
1. Daily Operations & Support:
Oversee the daily operation and optimization of our customers' PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB databases.
Provide 2nd/3rd level support, manage patching, and participate in service windows following ITIL Change Management processes.
Participate in the daily management of incidents, service requests, and change requests.
2. Collaboration & Problem Resolution:
Investigate and resolve issues by collaborating with other teams (Unix, Windows, Backup, etc.) and liaising with vendor support when necessary.
3. Database Management Tasks:
Perform routine DBA tasks, including installations, user administration, disaster recovery planning, automation (both OS and DB level), and performance tuning.
Occasionally engage in reporting, with a focus on SQL and Unix environments.
4. Documentation & Process Improvement:
Document new operational procedures, services, or modifications.
Provide expert guidance and support internally or directly to customers as needed.
Continuously expand your knowledge and skills through self-study and learning opportunities.
Stay updated with emerging database technologies and trends and support future initiatives involving public cloud environments.
Your Qualifications and Experience
1. Technical Expertise:
Proficiency in MySQL and MongoDB administration.
Deep knowledge and hands-on experience in administering PostgreSQL databases, including installation, upgrades, data migration, backup, and recovery.
2. Systems & Certifications:
Solid understanding of Unix, Linux, Windows, networking, and clustering technologies. Relevant certifications are a plus.
3. Soft Skills:
A business-oriented approach to communication, a problem-solving attitude, strong analytical skills, and a structured, positive mindset.
Good English communication skills, both spoken and written.
Eagerness to learn and support additional database technologies as needed.
Flexibility to operate databases both on-premises and in public cloud environments in the future.
