Leopardstown Park Hospital is a registered centre for the provision of services to older people, providing Respite, Rehabilitation, Day services, and Long-Term Care, situated in South Co. Dublin. Established in 1917, it continues to provide interdisciplinary services on a seven-day, twenty-four-hour basis.
Reporting Relationship: The Senior Pharmacist will report directly to the Pharmacist Executive Manager 1.
Purpose of the Post:
1. To support the Pharmacist Executive Manager 1 in the day-to-day running and future development of the pharmacy service.
2. To participate in the ward-based clinical pharmacy services.
3. Provide effective, efficient, and safe pharmaceutical care to all patients under their care in Leopardstown Park Hospital.
4. To provide prescribing and professional advice to medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals, including other pharmacists, and contribute to good clinical governance in the use of medicines.
Eligibility Criteria:
Post Specific Requirements:
1. Be registered in the Register of Pharmacists maintained by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) or be entitled to be so registered.
2. Have not less than three years satisfactory post-registration experience in a community or hospital setting.
3. Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
Desirable Skills, Competencies, and Knowledge:
* Commitment to further education in health services management through CPD and/or postgraduate studies.
* Understanding of the HIQA Medication Safety Monitoring Programme in relation to rehabilitation healthcare settings.
Communication Skills:
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals, target groups, and health professionals.
* Ability to communicate with members of multidisciplinary teams and managers assertively and with diplomacy to ensure adherence to medication policies and clinical best practices.
* Engage with healthcare and non-healthcare professionals in a respectful, cooperative, and professional manner.
* Have a person-centred approach, respectful towards service users/residents, staff, and others.
* Evidence of ability to empathize with and treat service users/residents, relatives, and colleagues with dignity and respect.
IT Skills:

* Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, i.e., ability to present clearly and concisely.

Age: Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age.
Health: A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character: Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Terms and Conditions of Employment:
The current vacancy is a permanent Pharmacist role on a whole-time basis. The post is pensionable.
Remuneration: Remuneration is in accordance with the salary scale approved by the Department of Health: Senior Pharmacist. Present scale effective from March 1st 2025 - 8 point scale €74,779 - €86,717.
Working Week: The hours allocated to this post are 35 hours per week with 7 hours as a standard working day. The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of the Department Head and in accordance with the needs of the service.
Superannuation: Local Government Superannuation Scheme/ Single Public Service Pension Scheme (SPSPS).
