As an Advisory Services Consultant (enrolled to the Consultant Development Programme), This individual will provide people, process and technology consulting services to strengthen and improve health care operations that result in stronger financial returns and a healthier health care system. You’ll use your strong business and technology acumen to work closely with clients to define, develop and implement business requirements to ensure needs are captured and critical deliveries are executed. You won’t find more interesting challenges and you won’t find smarter people working together to solve them.
Consultant Development Programme (CDP):
The Consultant Development Program (CDP) is a programme for those interested in developing and deploying client-facing, problem-solving and presentation skills with health care clients. The CDP sits within Optum Advisory and allows for early career professionals to experience a diversity of health care clients through a variety of engagements. CDP members work on different client teams while simultaneously receiving mentorship and formal training in key consulting competencies. Programme completion includes alignment into an Optum Advisory practice and typically takes 1.5-2.5 years to complete.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities of an Advisory Services Consultant:
Collaborate with business and technology departments to define deliverables and develop solutions that are reusable across the organization.
Create written and oral communication artefacts that effectively summarise findings, support fact-based recommendations and provides appropriate detail to substantiate conclusions
Identify and document business process re-engineering opportunities including current and future state process flows
Define, develop and document business requirements to ensure clients’ needs are captured and delivered (Example: use case-based Business Requirements Documents with evidence
demonstrating competence writing unique, code-able, testable business requirements, user stories, Requirements Traceability Matrix)
Work closely with Developers, Quality Assurance Analysts, Architects, Business Partners and other Technology teams to ensure requirements and design are completely understood
Assist in quality assurance and user acceptance testing by writing test scripts, executing test cases and documenting defects (e.g. test case development; active participation and oral
communication through defect triaging, use of application lifecycle management tools through code promotion)
Act as the liaison between Business and Systems Analysts, Developers and Project Management groups
Work closely with business teams to strategise solutions that support long term business objectives
Lead and mentor other Analysts
Design and Develop reporting capabilities while integrating multiple data sources
Manage and incrementally improve ongoing reporting and data solutions

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in Finance, Business, Management, IT or related field
Experience in any of the following areas: Business Analysis, Systems Analysis, Project Management, Business Process Improvement, Data Analysis
Project Management Experience building/creating project deliverables with the ability to manage complex work-streams.
Experience translating business requirements into a detailed system specification.
Client-facing experience.
Experience with Data visualisation and analytics tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Python, Alteryx).
Ability to work in highly technical, matrixed, fast-paced environment.
Ability to work in office on a hybrid schedule (3 days home / 2 days in-office).
Preferred Qualifications of an Advisory Services Consultant:
Master’s Degree or Postgraduate Certificate
Experience working in a Management Consulting/Professional Consulting environment.
Health care experience.
Intellectual curiosity in health care and improving health systems.
Experience managing executive reporting capabilities and managing reporting solutions
Experience with Coordination of Onboarding / Training Delivery.
Experience with Agile methodology (Product Owner, Scrum Master), database management systems, and other business-related technologies.
Project Management Certification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMO).
Experience working with test plans and test cases.
Experience with the following tools/applications: SQL, JIRA, CA Agile (Rally), Aha!.
Experience working in a product development/management environment.
Experience and knowledge of the US health care sector.
