Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Company Accountant to join our finance team at Robert A. Merry & Co. Limited, a leading drinks company based in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing day-to-day accounting activities, and providing support to senior management in strategic decision-making. This role requires a strong background in accounting, financial analysis, and a keen understanding of the food and beverage sector.
This is a senior appointment and it is envisaged that you will be part of the Management Team of the Company and will be expected to contribute to the day-to-day management of the company as well as the development of an ambitious strategy for the future development of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
* Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheet, profit and loss, cash flow).
* Continuous cost analysis of the main product lines and contribution management.
* Conduct variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance.
* Manage and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
* Coordinate year-end audits and liaise with external auditors.
Accounting Management:
* Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions.
* Ensure timely processing of payments, invoicing, and collections.
* Prepare VAT returns and ensure compliance with Irish tax regulations.
* Review and process employee expenses and payroll.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
* Assist in the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets and forecasts.
* Provide regular updates on financial performance against budget and forecast.
* Support the finance manager in strategic planning and decision-making.
Cash Flow Management:
* Monitor cash flow to ensure sufficient funds are available for operations.
* Prepare cash flow projections and manage cash reserves.
* Oversee bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.
Cost Management:
* Analyse and manage the cost of goods sold, production, and inventory.
* Identify opportunities for cost savings and improved financial performance.
Compliance & Risk Management:
* Ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards (IFRS).
* Maintain accurate records for tax reporting and other legal purposes.
* Monitor internal controls and assist in implementing best practices.
System Implementation & Improvement:
* Work with the finance team to improve and implement accounting systems and processes.
* Evaluate and enhance financial software tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Reporting to Senior Management:
* Provide detailed financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.
* Advise on financial decisions that impact the company’s profitability and growth.
* Direct report to Group Management.
Requirements:
Education & Qualifications:
* A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification is preferred).
* Experience in a similar role, preferably within the drinks, food, or manufacturing industry.
Skills & Competencies:
* Strong knowledge of financial accounting and management reporting.
* Experience in dealing with Customs and Excise matters.
* Experience in handling VAT, payroll, and tax compliance.
* Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Microsoft Navision, Microsoft Business Central or similar).
* Advanced Excel skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience:
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in the food and beverage or manufacturing sector.
* Knowledge of Irish tax laws and financial regulations.
* Experience with cost management and profitability analysis.

* Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
* High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.
