Role Summary & Company Overview:
We are currently recruiting for a Surgical Nurse to join our team, on a full-time contract basis.
The purpose of this role is to provide care for patients during dermatological minor skin surgery and to provide support to the surgeon in the running of the surgical procedures, as required.
The Surgical Nurse will be motivated to deliver the best standard of care to patients. They will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the appraisal and management of surgical wounds and post operative management.
They will have a strong patient focus whereby the specialty defines itself as nursing and subscribes to the overall purpose, functions and ethical standards of nursing.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
1. Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
2. Provide care with minimal supervision in a timely, accurate and safe manner.
3. Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care based on current standards and research, perform procedures according to established policy and procedures.
4. Maintain accurate nursing and surgical records as per clinic policy.
5. Execute surgeon's orders for all assigned patients; safely and properly administer medications and treatments.
6. Perform or assist others to perform proper aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.
7. Maintain the patient’s confidentiality regarding his or her condition, always upholding the Code of Professional Conduct.
8. Communicate effectively with colleagues and other members of the health care team.
9. Continually assess patient condition.
10. Continue to develop personal knowledge and skills.
11. Participate in the education and orientation of new personnel.
12. Clearly demonstrate knowledge in assisting the Doctor/Nurse with minor skin surgery procedures such as punch biopsies, scoop, shave excision and biopsies, curette and cautery, incisional biopsies, and excisions.
13. Manage patient wound clinics, post-op care, and provide essential information regarding aftercare.
Key Capabilities:
1. 3-5 years experience of working in an Operating Theatre Department or relevant Nursing experience.
2. Be computer literate.
3. Have excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
4. Have the ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and manage a number of issues simultaneously and demonstrate attention to detail.
5. Be able to identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.
6. Be of good character.
7. Fully registered RGN with the NMBI.
8. Candidates must be eligible to work in Ireland.
