The National Disability Authority (NDA) is the independent statutory body that provides evidence-informed advice and guidance to the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) on policy and practice relating to persons with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Advise officials in DCEDIY and other Government Departments and key state agencies
* Provide direct advice to the Minister
The NDA plays a crucial role in assisting the Minister in coordinating and developing disability policy. This includes:
* Undertaking, commissioning or collaborating in research projects and activities
* Assisting in the development of statistical information for the planning, delivery and monitoring of disability programs and services
In addition, the NDA advises the Minister on standards for disability programs and services, prepares codes of practice and monitors their implementation. The Authority also promotes universal design through its Centre of Excellence in Universal Design (CEUD), ensuring that the built environment, products, services and information and communications technology are accessible to all, regardless of age, size, ability or disability.
