Laboratory Assistants
The Laboratory Assistant will be part of the Laboratory Operations Team. As a key team member, you will focus on sample receipt, sample queries, sample assigning, and sample preparation. Hours of operation are 35 hours per week, and shifts may vary between 7:00 am – 11:00 pm across Monday – Sunday. You will support all aspects of laboratory operations and collaborate with both internal and external cross-functional teams to ensure the highest quality genotype data is delivered to the customer, ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS) in place.
Specific Responsibilities
* Receiving high volumes of samples and inputting sample IDs into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
* Segregating samples based on different priority categories defined by the customer.
* Recording sample numbers and types received on a daily basis, labelling, sorting, storing, and retrieving samples when required.
* Preparing samples, primarily eartag and hair samples, for DNA extraction in line with Standard Operating Procedures.
* Ensuring all quality checks are conducted to the highest standard to maintain sample integrity throughout the sample receipt and preparation processes.
* Processing samples in the necessary timeframe to ensure that required turnaround times for reporting results are achieved.
* Identifying and reporting non-conforming work to the line manager and supporting the necessary root cause investigation and closeout of Technical Errors/Non-Conformances when required.
* Maintaining and suggesting improvements to sample management and storage systems, processing samples in order of highest priority to achieve turnaround times.
* Assisting and supporting the training of other laboratory staff in sample receipt and preparation procedures.
* Supporting the QMS by ensuring that working practices are in line with ISO17025 standards and/or other relevant accreditations.
* Adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations at all times.
* Completing all documentation in line with Good Documentation Practice.
* Monitoring stock levels.
All of these roles are for January start dates. Contracts will range from 8 to 20 weeks in duration. Candidates will be working days only.
