Job Description:
The Medical Scientist/Biomedical Scientist will have responsibility for performing automated Haematology, Clinical Chemistry and Immunoassay analysis together with blood parasitology; Manual differential analysis and sample preparation; Clinical Chemistry and Haematology analysis. Evaluation and authorisation of results. Carrying out clerical and technical tasks in accordance with sample handling procedures, maintaining policies and procedures, review and update as required. While working with colleagues to contribute towards the continuous improvement of the department. Participate in the development and maintenance of the ISO 15189 quality management system which is patient centred and ensures quality focused results are provided for patient care and to assist in the Total Quality Improvement of the department.
Specific Tasks
* Use of Laboratory Information Management Systems in place in the laboratory.
* Help achieve departmental goals & objectives.
* Participate in method development and implementation of new techniques.
* Be aware and compliant with all documentation related to your department to include - Training records, SOP’s, Forms.
* Assist in the completion of the department’s daily tasks including work files to a high standard to ensure patient results are delivered in a timely manner.
* Processing of samples in a multi-disciplinary environment incorporating automated and manual methods of analysis to include pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes.
* Analysis of samples in a timely manner.
* Authorize results, ensuring result accuracy at all times.
* Communicate with your Head of Department, Laboratory Services Manager and Consultants and/or requesting clinician any relevant information regarding patient safety.
* Contribute to the monitoring, recording and investigations for non-conformances and audits.
* Contribute to the monitoring and recording of complaints and investigations of clinical complaints, taking corrective action as appropriate.
* Reagent preparation.
* Participate in the management of reagent and consumable stock levels.
* Sample preparation and analysis in accordance with SOP’s.
* QC result data entry.
* To assist /rotate through all of the divisions.
* Maintenance of instrumentation.
* Advise of any equipment failures or problems encountered in the course of carrying out his/her duties.
* Clean/disinfect working areas daily.
* Demonstrate Good Laboratory Practice.
Working Hours: 35 hours p/w
Qualifications
Education
* Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Science
Experience
* Relevant experience in a multidisciplinary medical laboratory
Any required licences / certifications or membership
* CORU registered as Medical Scientist
* HCPC registered as Biomedical Scientist
