Job Title:
Health and Safety Officer
Duties:
* Lead the Health and Safety function and champion a Culture of Safety and Behavioural Standards at the Cork hospital.
* Conduct departmental Risk Assessments, manage Risk Registers, and oversee Emergency Disaster Management programs in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.
* Provide guidance on general safety, fire prevention, security management, hazardous materials management, and participate in safety audits and rounding.
* Maintain the hospital's safety statement, ensuring compliance with JCI Facilities Management and Safety Standards, Health & Safety Authority requirements, and relevant legislative codes of practice.
* Develop safety-related Standard Operating Procedures, Policies, and Plans.
* Participate in hospital safety and quality improvement committees to drive the safety agenda.
* Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; deliver safety training to hospital staff.
* Maintain the hospital Chemical Database and coordinate DGSA statutory obligations.
* Liaise with the Facility Manager regarding contractor safety management, inductions, and provide safety input for new projects or building upgrades.
* Collaborate with Infection Prevention and Control Teams and Heads of Departments to promote the health and safety agenda.
Candidate Requirements:
* Degree-level qualification in Safety, Health, and Welfare.
* Knowledge of Safety, Health, and Welfare legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
* Excellent Communication, Interpersonal, and Organizational Skills.
* Motivated, influencing, excellent communicator, team player, self-starter, willingness to learn, and engage.
* Excellent IT skills, numeracy skills, self-starter, capable of working independently.
