Head of Finance (NICS) Job Description
VANRATH is delighted to be working with a well-known Civil Service business based in the Belfast area, seeking a Qualified Accountant to become their Head of Finance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management:
* Oversee the preparation and management of budgets, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and statutory requirements.
* Monitor and report on financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
* Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
2. Financial Controls and Compliance:
* Implement and maintain robust financial controls to safeguard public funds.
* Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies, and procedures.
* Conduct regular financial audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate financial risks.
3. Strategic Planning and Analysis:
* Support the development of long-term financial plans and strategies.
* Conduct financial analysis and modelling to inform decision-making and policy development.
* Provide financial advice and guidance to senior management and other stakeholders.
4. Leadership and Collaboration:
* Lead and manage a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
* Collaborate with other departments to ensure integrated and coherent financial management across the organisation.
* Represent the finance department in meetings and working groups, both internally and externally.
Qualifications and Experience
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
* Experience in the public sector or a similar environment is highly desirable.
* Qualified accountant with a recognised professional accounting body (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CIPFA).

* Proficiency in financial management software and tools.
