Role Overview:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Group Health and Safety Officer to join a leading Food Manufacturing group.
This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees and visitors across the site.
The officer will work closely with various departments to develop, implement, and maintain health and safety programs, with a strong focus on compliance with legal regulations, company policies, and accident prevention.
The role will involve managing contractor safety, conducting audits, risk assessments, training, and reporting on safety performance, all while fostering a safety-first culture throughout the site.
Key Responsibilities:
Health &
Safety Coordination:
Assist the Group Health & Safety Manager in coordinating health and safety activities across the site, ensuring the smooth execution of safety procedures and policies.
Return to Work (RTW)
Management:
Manage the return-to-work process for employees post-work-related absence, ensuring proper documentation and a safe reintegration process.
Risk Assessments & Mitigation:
Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards, implement corrective actions, and assess new equipment and processes for safety risks.
SOP Development:
Write, review, and update Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) in line with current safety standards and best practices.
Training
Management:
Maintain and oversee training trackers to ensure all employees are up to date with the necessary health and safety training programs.
Incident Investigation:
Lead investigations into accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and ensure corrective actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
Auditing & Compliance:
Conduct audits and inspections of the workplace to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Contractor Liaison:
Serve as the main point of contact for contractors on-site, ensuring they follow all safety protocols and are provided with the appropriate documentation and orientation.
Product Complaints & Investigations:
Oversee the investigation and resolution of any product complaints, recalls, or quality incidents related to safety.
Emergency Preparedness:
Organize and lead regular emergency drills and training, ensuring the workforce is prepared for potential emergency situations.
Continuous Improvement:
Foster a proactive safety culture by identifying and implementing continuous improvements in safety practices across the plant.

In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation, FMCG safety standards, and best practices in risk management.
Risk Assessment & Mitigation:
Expertise in identifying hazards and proactively taking measures to mitigate them.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effectively conveying safety policies and procedures.
Problem Solving:
Ability to make quick decisions during safety incidents and provide practical solutions to minimize risks.
Attention to Detail:
Ability to spot safety issues during risk assessments, audits, and compliance checks.

Strong leadership skills to guide safety initiatives and work cross-functionally with various teams.

Experience &
Qualifications:
Experience: Proven experience in a Health & Safety role, preferably in the FMCG or manufacturing industry, with a focus on managing health and safety compliance in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent health and safety certifications are highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
Familiarity with health and safety software, training systems, and Microsoft Office.
