We are the people behind Ireland’s electricity grid. We operate the power system with world-leading levels of variable asynchronous renewable generation, ensuring that everyone has power when they need it. But that’s not all; we are now transforming the power system for future generations.
And that’s just the beginning of our story. We have a critical purpose: to transform the power system to enable our society to reduce carbon emissions and meet our climate change and net zero ambitions.
Be part of the transformation!
The Opportunity
We are now seeking a Senior Lead Engineer to join our System Integrity team.
The role of the Senior Lead Engineer is to support the System Integrity team, which is responsible for ensuring the secure, resilient operation of the power system by implementing necessary protection systems. The primary focus of the Protection team within System Integrity is to specify, set, coordinate, and monitor the performance of protection schemes used on the 400 kV, 220 kV, and 110 kV transmission networks, as well as all interfaces with the transmission network.
The Team
The Operations and Asset Management Office is central to delivering our primary role: the operation, development, and enhancement of the power system and the wholesale electricity market. The Office is also responsible for the sustainable implementation of transmission system and market development to meet future electricity needs.
The System Integrity function manages a wide range of technical functions, including Power System Protection, Transmission and Generator outage planning, Revenue Metering for transmission-connected generation, and the controlled introduction of new and recently maintained plant to the power system. This work is critical for operating a safe, secure power system, maintaining transmission and generation assets, facilitating system development, and connecting/commissioning new customer connections. The function closely supports real-time and near real-time operational activities in the National Control Centre.

Successful candidates will have the following qualifications and experience:
* An Electrical/Electronic engineering degree with at least 6 years’ experience in the electricity/energy sector, with demonstrated knowledge of power system protection theory and application.
