Background & Role
DCU became the world's first Age-friendly University in 2012 when it launched the Ten Principles of an Age-Friendly University leading to the development of an Age-Friendly University Global Network of over 136 universities. The Age-Friendly University concept promotes age-inclusivity in higher education. The AFU Unit offers a range of programmes and opportunities for older people to engage in education, research, cultural, sporting, wellness, and social activities. Over 1800 people engage with the programme weekly. In addition, the AFU Coordinator is a leading member of the AFU Global Network Executive, which provides opportunities for research collaborations and engagement globally. Activity areas include research and innovation, teaching and learning, intergenerational and lifelong learning, civic engagement, encore careers, institutional change, advocacy, and influencing policy. The AFU Unit is part of Student Support and Development under the widening participation strand.
This post will contribute to the successful completion of several research projects recently awarded to the AFU unit under Erasmus funding and the ongoing programme of yearly AFU activities. The post is offered part time 21 hours per week. For more information go to visit www.dcu.ie/agefriendly

Essential Training
The postholder will be required to undertake the following essential compliance training:
Orientation, Health & Safety, Data Protection (GDPR) and all Cyber Security Awareness Training. Other training may need to be undertaken when required.
Salary Scale:
IUA Research Assistant Point 1 on the scale €31,962
* Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in line with current IUA pay policy
