Job Purpose
The primary role of Assistant Director of Nursing is to carry out a range of duties to ensure that the care and well-being of residents is met satisfactorily, including assisting in future planning, supervision and control of all staff and deputising for Director of Nursing in their absence.
As a key member of the senior management team in the Home, the role holder will demonstrate managerial and leadership skills and facilitate effective communications with all relevant internal and external stakeholders. The role will report to Director of Nursing in the Nursing Home.
Roles & Responsibilities:
* In collaboration with the Director of Nursing, oversee the organisation, and management, of operations at Nursing Home.
* Communicate directly with residents, families, medical staff, nursing staff, interdisciplinary and team members to coordinate care and service and maintain a high quality of care and life for residents.
* Responsible for implementing clinical policies and procedures. Ensure all policies and procedures are communicated and interpreted by staff through observation of practices and the clinical audit programme.
* Ensure that current nursing policies and procedures conform to current nursing practice standards, legislation and HIQA standards.
* Identify, manage, and reduce risk in collaboration with the Director of Nursing. Ensure all staff are aware of the Risk Management, Health, and Safety procedures.
* Support and provide guidance to CNMs and Nursing Staff in developing person centred care plans based on a thorough risk assessment and ensure that these are reviewed formally every four months.
* Support, lead, and guide Clinical Nurse Managers in the daily management of their assigned units, and act as the senior clinical lead for decision-making in each unit.
* Assist the Person in Charge in maintaining professional standards in the centre.
* Ensure that the Quality Improvement programme is maintained within the centre by conducting audit to measure the effectiveness of care delivery and systems with associated corrective action whilst promoting quality assurance to ensure safe delivery of care and life for residents in the centre.
* Responsible to respond to any concerns/complaints raised by residents, families, or staff; ensure that these are addressed immediately, reported upwards, and documented.
* Demonstrate knowledge of and application of key clinical quality indicators, and proactively monitor and implement systems to achieve defined KPI’s.
* Participate in overall governance meetings where required and ensure daily and weekly clinical management team meetings are held to discuss resident status, or resident complaints/concerns and risk management.
* In collaboration with the Training and Development Manager ensure all Mandatory and supplementary training. All staff inductions and work orientations are effectively planned, and associated records are maintained.
* Manage all resources efficiently and effectively within agreed budget.
* Ensure adequate levels of stocks/supplies are maintained.
* Implement Company Health and Safety Policy to safeguard the safety and welfare of staff, residents, and others.
* Ensure catering team meets HACCP standards and is maintained at the highest quality & variety at all times.
* Ensure the hygiene and cleanliness of the home is to the highest standard in conjunction with Facility Team.
Essential Criteria:
* Registered on the Live Register in the General Division of the Register of Nurses as maintained by the NMBI.
* Elderly Care Qualification
* Management Qualification
* Minimum of 3 years elderly care experience, which should be at management level.
* Knowledge of the Nursing Home Industry.
* Have a full understanding of the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People.
* Have wide general nursing experience and proven leadership qualities.
* Have experience/ qualification in Gerontology.
* Evidence of consistent updating of clinical skills and knowledge.
* Competent and confident IT skills.
* Has worked with or has a knowledge of caring for people with dementia.
