Job DescriptionAs General Manager of Hawthorn Restaurant & Bar inside the iconic Fairmont Palliser Hotel, you are responsible for leading the revitalization on this renovated space by curating a superior guest & colleague experience. You will bring experience in effective leadership, strategic planning and a thirst for innovation and trend-setting. You are relentless in your pursuit of excellence, and long to leave a lasting impression on every guest who visits your restaurant.
Reporting to the Director of Food & Beverage, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Accountable for managing the day-to-day operations of both Hawthorn with active presence on the restaurant floor leading your team to deliver service excellence.Manage and develop a team of Leaders to execute the day-to-day operations in the Restaurant.Work in partnership with the Restaurant Chef to execute the smooth and flawless operation of both the Front and Heart of House.Work in partnership with Restaurant Chef, Head Bartender, and Mixologists to create and maintain all restaurant menus while in keeping with the overall concept.Constantly drive innovation to redefine the Calgary culinary experience by actively promoting Hawthorn within the community.Accountable for driving revenue and profit through the development and implementation of strategies, practices and promotions while keeping with the overall concept of the venue.Actively manage restaurant social media accounts in partnership with the Restaurant Chef and Marketing Team.Manage online reputation by responding to feedback, comments and/or reviews in a timely and professional manner, addressing any concerns.Effectively recruit and onboard new colleagues and train and lead the team in all aspects of the department to ensure service standards are followed.Maintain awareness of, and ensuring compliance with all food safety & hygiene policies and procedures (as outlined by the EHC manual) are followed at all times.Maintain awareness of, and ensuring compliance with all sustainability and food waste reduction/diversion policies, procedures and programs at the hotel.Collaborate with other departments to contribute to the overall smooth operation of the hotel.Management of departmental budgets, including expenses, labour and capital planning.QualificationsA minimum of 5 years' experience in a restaurant setting as the General Manager/Restaurant Manager.A true passion for the food & beverage industry, exceeding guest expectations and developing the best team of restaurant professionals in the city.Knowledge of current restaurant trends and a highly creative mindset (we want to set the trends, not chase them).Proven ability to balance driving revenues and profit, without sacrificing colleague and guest experiences.Proven ability in menu design, offerings, effective marketing plans, and online reputation management.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.Excellent work ethic with a high degree of responsibility.Ability to work cohesively as part of a team and build relationships.Experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset.Experience with Silverware, Opera PMS and OpenTable an asset.Additional InformationWhat is in it for you: Employee benefit card offering discounted rates in Accor worldwide.Learning programs through our Academies.Opportunity to develop your talent and grow within your property and across the world!Ability to make a difference through our Corporate Social Responsibility activities, like Sustainability Program.Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
