The Radiology department at Hermitage Clinic provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic procedures delivered in state of the art facilities by a team of experienced professionals committed to excellence in clinical standards and patient care. The department has grown from strength to strength since its inception in 2007 and now performs more than 60,000 diagnostic and interventional examinations per year of an increasing range and complexity. With an experienced team of 10 consultant radiologists and over 50 employees including radiographers, assistants, nursing and administrative staff and the latest in CT and MR technology soon to be installed, this is an opportune time to join a team of highly skilled individuals dedicated to delivering a first class cross sectional imaging service.
This is a specified purpose contract to cover a period of Maternity Leave.
About the role
The general Clinical Specialist Radiographer in Radiology will manage the general radiographers in the fields of x-ray, fluoroscopy and the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory. The jobholder will ensure that staff working in this area comply with all relevant policies and protocols and that all procedures and enquiries are carried out and dealt with in an efficient, friendly and professional manner.
Duties will include:
* The jobholder will be an expert within the field of general x-ray, theatre imaging, fluoroscopy and interventional imaging and will maintain that expertise at the highest level. They will demonstrate leadership and will be responsible for training, supervising and monitoring of all staff in these areas.
* To undertake all general x-ray procedures and to maintain a highly specialist standard of technical skill, efficiency and patient care in accordance with departmental protocols and procedures and IIRRT.
* To continually train, supervise and update the radiographic staff to ensure best practice and a competent and confident work force.
* To liaise with radiologists and referring clinicians to initiate and develop new procedures and techniques.
* Be responsible for formulating, assessing and modifying operational policy in line with changing demand for services. Modify services in line with changes in local and national guidelines.
* Establish effective interdepartmental liaison to achieve optimum levels of patient care and to encourage good working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team.
* The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well-being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.
* To observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of the Hermitage Clinic together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.
* Provide clinical leadership for radiographers and ensure an effective learning environment for the multidisciplinary team, taking an active part in the delivery of care as appropriate.
* Work within the code of Professional Conduct, participation in the development of the Scope of Practice and provide professional support for radiology services.
* Manage the induction and training of radiographer staff as per local and HMC induction procedures.
* Promote and support professional and personal development opportunities for all radiographer staff.
* Ensure that there is compliance with all relevant Hermitage Clinic guidelines, policies, procedures and relevant legislation and regulatory requirements. This includes responsibility for dealing with regulatory or professional bodies and inspections.
* Encourage continuous review and evaluation of policies, guidelines and existing practices through regular audit programmes and review engaging with the multi-disciplinary team where required.
Qualifications:
* BSc in Radiography or hold a DCR
* CORU registered
* Have a recognised post graduate course or be in pursuit of same
Experience:
* Minimum of four years' experience in general x-ray in an acute hospital setting
* Minimum 2 years' experience in intervention/Cath lab
* Familiar with a computerised patient information system and PACS
Knowledge:
* Thorough understanding of legislation relating to Radiation Safety
* Understand the requirements of and promote CPD
