We have a new opening for a Senior Controls Engineer with a Medical Device company based in Athlone.
This position will be a Hybrid based role, with a requirement to be onsite 1-2 days per week.
As a Senior Controls Engineering Specialist, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the New Product side and assisting with New Products & Technologies into Business. This is a new position with in the team, you will be working closely with the Corporate Teams designing Equipment, guide people on site, assist in training and spot skill Gaps and the ability to upskill current team also be able to identify what technology is needed.
The candidate will be at a Principal Engineer Level with strong hands on experience with strong experience in PLCs and SCADA and be able to install SCADA systems, understand SCADA and MES Interface
The position will involve the following:
1. Leading the development and commissioning of automation and control systems.
2. Designing, specifying, programming, simulating, testing, and providing start-up assistance for automation and control systems.
3. Focusing on levels 1 to 3 of the ISA pyramid, working closely with project teams and OEMs to deliver optimum solutions for the business.
Some Responsibilities listed:
4. Manage the specification, development, installation, and validation of automation projects with direct responsibility for control systems.
5. Lead discussions with project teams, provide technical support, and make informed decisions on hardware and architecture selection.
6. Collaborate with OEM teams to design, develop, and test PLC code in accordance with site coding standards.
7. Fine-tune PLC code during the testing and development phase of projects, conducting system testing and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
8. Develop and test different aspects of automation systems including robotics, vision, PLC, HMI/SCADA, Motion Control, etc.
9. Complete controls aspects of projects within the schedule and budget.
10. Assess existing technologies and processes, researching and implementing new control technologies.
Requirements:
11. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering or Computer Sciences, or a relevant field.
12. Over 10 years in an Engineering role, preferably in Medical Devices Life Sciences or Pharma.
13. Excellent knowledge of control system engineering in the automation and overall operation of complex electro-mechanical systems.
Skills:
14. Expertise in Process Automation and Systems Integration.
15. Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley control systems including Servo motion control and FactoryTalk View ME/SE.
16. Familiarity with Siemens PLC platforms (., TIA Portal, WinCC) is highly desirable.
17. Proficiency in PLC programming languages such as ladder logic, function block diagram (FBD), and structured text (ST).
18. Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (., Ignition, FactoryTalk).
19. Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and techniques for securing SCADA systems.
