AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
We are looking for a highly motivated, commercially savvy Network Infrastructure Business Developer to help grow and scale one of the world’s largest and most complex networks. We develop new and innovative ways to scale and expand our network, while delivering operational excellence to our stakeholders. This opportunity sits within our Backbone Network Development organization where the team is responsible for planning, developing and acquiring the network that drive Amazon’s internal infrastructure as well as connecting Amazon to the rest of the world. The Senior Backbone Network Developer will be a subject matter expert in the telecommunications marketplace, experienced with vendors, physical network infrastructure, optical technologies and backbone network engineering. This role requires collaboration, and synthesizing a technical vendor strategy across the AWS network topology.
About the Team
The GCID Backbone Business Development (BBD) team is responsible for the planning and acquisition of all Long-Haul connectivity between AWS Regions and Edge sites supporting our Global Backbone network. The BD actively drives commercial and technical vendor network strategy within EMEAI, working with suppliers, technology partners, as well as the AWS service teams to meet our customer’s demands. By applying a unique blend of industry and technology experience, the BD works closely with both external and internal teams to find creative, cost effective, and often unusual solutions to meet Amazon's ongoing growth and expansion needs worldwide. The BD is a data analyst to a certain extent and works continuously to improve the quality of the processes and the internal data allowing leadership to make the right decisions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. A Bachelor's Degree in an IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
2. Telecommunications industry experience in a similar environment.
3. Ability to create complex financial models to understand business impacts of various network solutions.
4. Demonstrated ability to formulate data driven decisions that lead to results.
5. Sound business judgment, proven ability to influence others, and strong analytical thinking skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience working at a large network operator, OTT or Internet Service Provider.
2. Experience as a Data scientist.
3. Experience in working with Salesforce and creating scripts.
4. Experience as a product manager.
5. Demonstrated ability to anticipate customer requirements and build strategic plans.
6. Experience interacting with senior executives and other management within own company and externally.
7. In-depth knowledge of the latest optical communications developments and major internet routing protocols; specifically BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and ISIS.
8. Ability to speak multiple European languages.
