Day Services Support Worker Vacancy – Full time and part time role
MooreHaven was established in 1981 to provide day services for people with intellectual disabilities (mild to moderate) in Tipperary Town and Cashel. These services have grown significantly and now encompass Day Activation, Supported Work/ Employment, Day Services, Training Programme and Residential Services. The Centre caters for over 100 people. The Centre’s Mission is to promote and support independent living and community integration, personal development and work opportunities for people attending the Centre.
Job Duration and Hours
Full time, Permanent – 31 hours per week
Part time, Permanent – 19 hours per week
Reporting relationship
Reporting to the Hub Co-ordinator and Day Services Manager.
Purpose of the post
To support service user(s) in their Day Service Programme.
There are circa 40 high support people some of which require a measure of extra support within their day service, to enable them to enjoy and partake within the daily activities of the Centre. Their day consists of a mix of learning, leisure and recreational pursuits combined with community involvement. Community integration is promoted as far as is reasonably practicable for each individual.
1. To contribute in a respectful and positive way to our service user’s well-being and development, treating all individuals availing of our service with dignity and respect.
2. To assist service user(s) in developing their Person Centred Plan and in achieving their goals.
3. To assist the service user(s) to be self-reliant and to foster their level of independence.
4. To provide direct practical help, support and guidance to individuals in their activities of daily living.
5. Develop community networks and encourage natural circles of support and actively search for opportunities for the person to make personally satisfying contributions through involvement in valued roles in their community.
6. To attend training that is offered to you, so that you fully understand and work with all the procedures and guidelines within the organisation.
7. Ensure that all accidents/incidents are reported promptly to the line manager.
8. To report any concerns you have for the safety and welfare of the service users of the MooreHaven Centre to the designated officer, in line with the National Policy, Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults.
9. To provide reports to their line manager if requested and to keep daily records.
10. To attend meetings if required.
11. To behave in a professional manner and to be aware that all matters pertaining to their work in MooreHaven Centre are of a strictly confidential nature and are to be treated accordingly.
12. To perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the day services manager.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Leaving certificate.
2. Level 5 QQI Qualification in Health Care.
3. Minimum 6 month working in a similar role working w/adults with an intellectual disability.
4. A good level of administrative skills.
5. A good level of IT skills.
6. A full clean Irish/EU Driving Licence.
A strong commitment to caring and an empathetic understanding of those with an intellectual disability are essential attributes for this role. The successful candidate will need great people skills, be flexible and have experience with rapid and complex changing work environments.
