Overview of role: Gaeltec Utilities are seeking a General Operative within the Overhead Lines team to work throughout multiple locations in the Southeast and Central Region (base location Kilkenny).
The ideal candidate will be required to provide efficient and safe operation of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and assist with general operative tasks, supporting the smooth running of daily operations.
The role combines driving along with hands-on duties such as loading, unloading, maintenance, and site work.
Key Responsibilities: Safely operate HGV vehicles to transport goods such as machinery, poles, etc. Complete daily checks to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with regulations. Adhere to road safety and driving regulations, including load securing and tachograph laws. Load and unload machinery and other equipment as required. Perform general site duties as required and maintain tools, efficiently and in adherence to quality standards, construction programme, and procedures. Ensure the safety of yourself, the workforce, public, and any other person affected by your duties and responsibilities. Follow task briefings and appropriate safe systems of work and ensure that Company policies and procedures are always adhered to. Complete all training as identified by the Company. Key Skills and Experience: Valid HGV license with Driver CPC qualification. Proven experience in driving HGVs and operating associated equipment. Basic mechanical knowledge for vehicle and equipment maintenance. Excellent communication and time management skills along with the ability to work as part of a team. Reliable and flexible with the ability to use own initiative. Physical fitness to handle manual tasks and work in varying environments. Must have an understanding of the English language.
