As part of Tyndall’s Science Foundation Ireland Research activities (VISTAMILK, CONNECT, CONFIRM, INSIGHT), the Tyndall National Institute at University College Cork is currently recruiting for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Biomechanics and Human Motion Analytics.
The Human Centric Systems research cluster at Tyndall is conducting world-class research in wireless sensor systems for use in and around the body. Working with a global range of academic, business, and clinical partners, our technology is under evaluation by several multinational corporations and is approaching market readiness.
The WSN Group invites applications for appointments as Postdoctoral Researcher in Biomechanics and Motion Analytics. The research program will focus on addressing technical challenges associated with human motion analytics, primarily in sports science and worker safety.
Reporting to the Biomechanics Team Leader, this is an exciting opportunity to help define and implement a biomechanical research program in wearable sensing systems.
The successful candidate will lead an applied research agenda for a team of multi-disciplinary researchers in data analytics and motion capture.
Key Responsibilities:
* Define, lead, and implement applied research and technical project management related to biomechanics for wireless sensing systems.
* Ensure timely delivery of technical project deliverables to Tyndall’s Research Partners.
* Develop and exploit intellectual property in human motion analytics.
* Enhance Tyndall’s position internationally as a leader in wireless sensing systems.
* Work with academic and industry partners to identify their wireless system needs.
* Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities as required.
* Ensure compliance with Tyndall Quality Management and Health and Safety standards.
* Supervise multiple Postgraduate students.
* Carry out additional duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
* PhD in Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience in Biomechanics/Human Motion Analytics, with typically 1-2 years Post-Doc/industrial research experience.
* Track record in Biomechanics and human motion analytics with experience in research strategy and proposal development.
* Key skills in Matlab/Python for data analytics, experience with motion capture systems, and multi-modal data acquisition systems.
* Publication portfolio in biomechanical analysis and data analytics in high-impact conferences and journals.
* Proven track record in securing research funding.
* Excellent project management skills, including proposal writing and communication skills.
* Highly analytical, motivated, with good interpersonal and organizational skills.
* Typically 3 years’ experience in Biomechanics.
* Capability for independent thinking and research project management.
* Good publication track record.
This is an initial 24-month contract with scope for extension subject to performance and funding. Salary placement will be in accordance with public sector pay policy (€41,207- €47,477 pa).
