Remuneration
The salary scale as at 01/10/2024:
€62,038-€63,362-€64,726-€66,077-€67,430-€68,854-€70,353-€71,848-€73,048
New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011).

Location of Post
There are currently two vacancies available in Primary Care Galway:
1. One permanent whole-time vacancy available in City East PCC Unit 7 Racecourse Business Park Ballybrit Galway.
2. One part-time specified purpose contract in Lyradoon Child & Family Centre, 65 Salthill Lower, Galway.
A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign Occupational Therapist Senior, Paediatrics Primary Care (Galway, Mayo and Roscommon) from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

Details of Service
Galway Primary Care Paediatric Occupational Therapy services support children, up to age 18 years, with their families, to take part in the everyday activities that they want to, and need to, do in their daily lives at home, at school, and at play. The OT service works with children towards achievements in everyday activities such as dressing, eating, handwriting, and play to enhance a child’s independence, self-confidence, and self-worth, enabling future participation in new learning, social, and leisure activities.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with MDT colleagues including Speech and Language therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Dietetics, and Public Health Nursing in support of coordinating and developing primary care services in Network 5 and Network 6 areas of Galway Primary Care.
Reporting Relationship
The post holder will have a dual reporting relationship. They will report to the Occupational Therapy Manager for clinical issues and to the relevant Enhanced Community Care Network Manager for operational matters.
Key Working Relationships
Primary Care Occupational Therapy Team, MDT Primary Care Team, Liaison at Children Referral Forum to represent Primary Care service, Liaison with relevant CDNT OT and MDT team.
Purpose of the Post
The provision of a quality Occupational Therapy service in line with standards of Occupational Therapy practice. To provide quality, client-centred primary care occupational therapy assessment and treatment to identified client groups. The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of a high quality Occupational Therapy service and will carry out clinical and educational duties as required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Occupational Therapist, Senior will:
Professional / Clinical
1. Be responsible for the maintenance of standards of practice of self and staff appointed to clinical / designated area(s).
2. Be responsible for managing own caseload and for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment programmes for service users according to service standards.
3. Participate in the integrated discharge planning process in line with the HSE Code of Practice.
4. Be responsible for the day-to-day running of a designated service area(s) by supervising staff, prioritising and allocating work, and promoting positive staff morale and team working.
5. Ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports, and discharge summaries are in accordance with local service, professional, and legislative standards.
6. Communicate verbally and/or in writing results of assessments, treatment/intervention programmes, and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
7. Attend clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences etc. as designated by the Clinical OT manager.
8. Ensure that professional standards are maintained in relation to confidentiality/data protection, ethics, and legislation.
9. Operate within the scope of Occupational Therapy practice as per CORU requirements and in accordance with local guidelines.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualifications and/or experience
1. Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
2. Have three years’ full time (or an aggregate of three years) post qualification clinical experience.
3. Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
4. Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
Other requirements specific to the post
1. Access to own transport for domiciliary visits, where appropriate.

Professional Knowledge and Experience
1. Demonstrate clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning skills, and evidence-based practice appropriate to carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the role in line with relevant legislation and standards.
2. Demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of the Occupational Therapy process, the underpinning theory, and its application to the role.
3. Demonstrate evidence of having applied/used appropriate assessment tools and treatments and a knowledge of the implications of outcomes for service users.
4. Demonstrate a willingness to engage and develop IT skills relevant to the role.
