Medical Director with responsibility for Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Clinical Operations, Data Management & Statistics.
Qualifications and Experience
Medical Doctor, board certified as internist and endocrinologist in Germany, diabetologist, GMC registered; 14 years in pharma industry.
Typical Day
Engagement in many meetings, either as part of decision-making bodies or 1:1s. Tasks include managing emails, reading literature, and meeting customers.
Career Development
Started in a dual role as local study manager for a Phase IV trial in Germany and global responsibility to translate the pre-clinical diabetes pipeline into clinical research. Roles progressed from Therapeutic Area Head Metabolic Diseases to Global Head of Medical Affairs, and later Chief Medical Officer, culminating in the current role as Medical Director UK & Ireland.
Career Decision
Decided on a career in the pharmaceutical industry in July 2002.

Proud to have established the clinical diabetes therapeutic area, leading to a medicine that was the first to show a mortality benefit in a dedicated CV outcome trial in patients with type 2 diabetes.
