What is the opportunity?
As a Senior Data Scientist on the Customer Analytics Marketing Effectiveness team, you will generate value from the detailed web analytics and customer data available to Group Marketing. With this data we have the potential to deliver further insights that can drive improvements in marketing efficiency.
You will have the chance to take ownership whilst working collaboratively to build out a programme of analytical work that will provide actionable insights on marketing channel & campaign performance. You will address diverse challenges, including designing and analysing A/B tests, econometric modelling, conducting in-depth data analysis to uncover growth opportunities, build scalable modelling solutions and influence business decisions and strategy.
These insights will give you the opportunity to make data backed recommendations that drive tangible improvements to the bottom line for the business!
We have two exciting opportunities available for Data Scientists, one on a permanent basis and one on a 12 month fixed term basis.
In This Role, You Will
1. Design and analyse experiments (A/B tests, causal inference studies) to measure marketing effectiveness and guide business decisions.
2. Apply advanced statistical methodologies (e.g., Instrumental Variables, Synthetic Control, Propensity Score Matching, Market Mix Modelling, Panel & Time-Series Econometrics, Statistical Learning Techniques) to measure the causal impact of marketing, pricing & external factors on key business outcomes.
3. Engage with partners across marketing, Customer Analytics, GWS, Product Teams and external agencies to find opportunities to enhance web analytics or marketing performance and drive improved marketing efficiency.
4. Use Agile methodologies to manage and deliver a pipeline of planned improvements, utilising strong partner management skills to ensure the programme of delivery is successfully delivered and communicated.
5. Deliver actionable recommendations to improve the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and initiatives. Influence key decision makers to ensure data driven insights are used to inform marketing planning and design.
6. Act as a senior lead within the team, driving improvements in quality of work and ways of working.
What will make you stand out?
1. Expertise & experience in econometric and statistical modelling, including time-series analysis, panel data, survival analysis and causal inference methods.
2. Proficiency in Python or R, with experience in statistical and machine learning libraries (Statsmodels, PyMC, causalml, survival etc)
3. Experience working with large datasets, utilising strong skills in SQL and data wrangling, preferably in a marketing analytics function.
4. Ability to translate complex statistical findings into clear, actionable insights for business decisions.
5. Strong data visualisation, communication and partner management skills.
6. Excellent problem-solving abilities and leadership skills to mentor junior team members and drive innovative solutions.
While not crucial to apply the following would be a string bonus!
1. MSc or PhD (or equivalent) in Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related field with emphasis on applied statistics and data analysis.
2. Bayesian Modelling (Hierarchical (Multilevel) models, Bayesian Shrinkage and Bayesian A/B testing).
3. Marketing Mix Modelling (MMM) and media attribution models.
4. Cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and Git.
5. Web and google analytics.
6. Applying Machine Learning algorithms in causal inference setting, such as optimising IPTW weight estimation by minimising maximum covariant imbalance.
7. Causal Machine Learning.
