YOUR ROLE
A Manufacturing apprentice engineer facilitates efficient operations within the production area, to optimise existing processes, implement new processes and to ensure that production goals are met. Monitors performance of equipment, machines and tools and corrects equipment problems or process parameters that produce non-conforming products, low yields or product quality issues, all within a highly regulated and complex manufacturing environment.
Analyses and solves problems from basic engineering principles, theories and initiates technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company. Applies project management methodologies and Kaizen improvement philosophy to manage production/product design and process and systems improvement respectively.
WHO YOU ARE
Leaving Certificate (or equivalent), Grade 06 at ordinary level in 5 subjects, 2 of which must be Maths and a language (English or Irish). Current leaving cert students may apply but offer is subject to successfully passing these subjects.
Applicants over 23 years of age (and who do not have a Leaving Certificate) may gain entry to the programme via the college mature applicant route. Acceptance will be based on an academic interview and relevant work experience.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
1. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
2. Gain basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and materials science.
3. Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities.
4. Experience with problem-solving methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis, 5 Whys).
5. Understanding of quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
6. Ability to perform measurements and inspections.
7. Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations.
8. Ability to conduct risk assessments.
9. Basic understanding of project management principles.
10. Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively.
11. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
12. Ability to collaborate within a team environment.
