Role Summary The NTMA, the Manager of the ISIF, is offering an exceptional opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to join ISIF's Climate team which is tasked with the delivery of ISIF's Climate investment strategy, with Climate being one of ISIF's priority investment themes. ISIF has to date committed over €1bn to climate-related investments, in areas ranging from wind generation, forestry to clean technology. ISIF is now looking to strengthen its climate team, with a view to delivering on its ambitious climate strategy, aligned with the Irish Climate Action Plan, to drive the transition to a net-zero economy. The strategy envisages continued investment in sustainable infrastructure, across all areas of carbon emissions in the economy, alongside investment in new technology and business models that will support the longer-term goal of Net Zero. ISIF's strategy is to deploy capital through a combination of fund-based investments and direct investment in climate related businesses. The capital provided by ISIF is differentiated compared to other funds and well suited to climate investing due to its long investment horizon, greater flexibility in structuring its capital and ability to provide significant capital investment to larger transactions. As an investor of systemic importance, ISIF has a key role to play in helping drive Ireland's transition to a Net Zero economy. The role will offer a high level of investment exposure from the outset. The successful candidate can expect to work on all types of transactions, ranging from provision of direct equity investments in high growth companies in the climate space to making and structuring investments in climate-focused infrastructure, growth equity, debt and venture capital funds. The Investment Manager will lead significant aspects of any given transaction. Managing the investment throughout its full lifecycle (from investment structuring, deal execution and managing the investment post completion, in line with the ISIF mandate and in conjunction with our ESG principles) is expected. Principal Accountabilities The Investment Manager will be required to work alongside other Investment Analysts, Managers and Investment Directors across the full range of the Fund's investment activities. The successful candidate will be a member of the Climate Investment team and work across a variety of initiatives including, but not limited to: Contribute to development of ISIF's Climate Investment strategy Originate and execute transactions (both direct and fund platform investments) aligned with this strategy, across multiple areas of the economy, including energy, transport, waste, enterprise and the built environment Lead significant and complex transactions / portfolio activities Co-ordinate projects / transactions, review and ensure quality, drive delivery Set scope of analysis required, organise and liaise with advisors as required Lead negotiations with third parties Produce high-quality papers and presentations Work with key government departments related to the Climate agenda: DECC, DETE, DoF, DoT Remain up to date on Policy and regulatory developments in climate related areas Wide-ranging responsibilities in monitoring performance of existing investments Knowledge The ideal candidate will: Have a third level qualification Demonstrate a keen and well-informed interest in issues related to climate change, and the role of investment in tackling climate related challenges both in a global and Irish context Demonstrate a strong track record in investment (equity or debt). Technically strong across a range of sub-sectors and/or products Experience 5+ years' experience, ideally working in private equity, venture capital, corporate finance, consulting, commercial/corporate banking, or similar environment Familiarity with key technologies in climate arena an advantage Experience of relationship management with investees and/or other third parties Previous experience working with Investment Committee and Board processes will be considered an advantage Skills An independent operator and thinker, track record of self-leadership A strong communicator, both in writing and verbally An open and good collaborator Displays high level of appetite, flexibility, accuracy, speed, delivery and reliability Flexible and considerate team player Good range of interpersonal skills to influence internal and external stakeholders Pension Abatement If an appointee has previously been employed in the Civil or Public Service and that appointee is entitled to or in receipt of a pension from the Civil or Public Service or where a Civil/Public Service pension comes into payment during the appointee's re-employment that pension will be subject to abatement in accordance with Section 52 of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and other Provisions) Act 2012.
