Mechanical Engineer / Estimator
Location: Navan.
The Role:
This role is for a mechanical engineer with commercial knowledge that will provide concept design development and tendering of products/skids for the water industry. You will work alongside the MEICA discipline resources and be involved in all day-to-day aspects of tendering future projects. In this role you will be tasked with coming up with new innovative designs to reduce fabrication time and increase chances of a successful tender. This in turn will be helping to develop the company’s Business Strategy objective of moving towards in-house Manufacturing and Off-site Construction. You will support and promote the development of standardised ways of working and development of a product range. You will work in a one-team culture while actively contributing to your own skills and experience. In this role, you will help in the implementation of an engineering and technologies strategy including offsite manufacturing and assembly, technologies and innovation. Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer / Estimator are outlined as follows:
1. Work as part of a team on multiple off-site manufacturing projects, create a “link” between site-based teams and the manufacturing capability, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
2. Ensure manufacturing products/systems/skids are designed taking cognisance of best practice Health and Safety standards and ease of operability and maintenance.
3. Help build a tendering team within E&T function to develop concept designs and general arrangement from operational teams to manufacture.
4. Engage with specialist consultants (e.g. Structural Designers, CE Marking, etc), to ensure all tendered items are fully certified and fit for purpose.
5. Take cognisance of local water utility standards such as Technical Specifications, Asset Standards, WIMES, etc to ensure manufactured products are in-line with relevant standards.
6. Work closely with Manufacturing & Design Manager on how concept design can be improved to get a competitive edge during tender stage.
7. Where product includes site installation, liaise with site operational teams on installation and HSQE requirements etc.
8. Conduct offsite manufacturing reviews for tenders and early stage ECI projects to ascertain off-site manufacturing opportunity.
9. Develop budget costing for off-site manufactured projects and supply these proposals to the operational teams in-line with the business strategy for each type of contract.
10. Provide assistance, oversight and guidance from time to time on tendering opportunities for new upcoming projects.
11. Help the team to progress procurement, hand in hand with design, to specify and detail MEICA equipment for skids.
12. Work with Manufacturing/Production Manager and E&T Project manager to improve process workflows and structure, not just within remit of E&T ME scope but also within the wider E&T function.
13. Work in a standardised repeatable fashion where possible, promote use of standardised templates and products where possible.
14. Help the E&T function to build a portfolio of standardised products for the water/wastewater industry.
15. Keep appraised of the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
16. Other duties as required from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Mechanical Engineer / Estimator are outlined as follows:
1. Experienced in MEICA engineering works such as process systems mechanical installation, control panels, electrical installations, commissioning and process proving activities.
2. Minimum of a Level 8 Honours Degree in relevant Engineering Qualification.
3. Ability to work under pressure to deliver project objectives.
4. Ability to engage with the customer as well as suppliers and sub-contractors.
5. Good working knowledge of programme management software such as Microsoft Project. Ability to prepare baseline programmes and programme updates.
6. Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adjust as issues arise during project delivery.
7. Excellent working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Project.
8. Strong communication skills with a high level of motivation.
9. Full Driving License.
