The person holding this post is required to support the principle that the care of the patient comes first at all times and will approach their work with the flexibility and enthusiasm necessary to make this principle a reality for every patient to the greatest possible degree.
Maintain throughout the hospital awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all activities.
Performance management systems are part of role and you will be required to participate in the Groups performance management programme.
The Pharmacist (Staff Grade) comprises (but is not limited to):
1. The supply of drugs, pharmaceuticals and other related items as may be required.
2. The purchase, storage and supply of all items on the most economical lines, consistent with quality at pharmacy, ward and departmental levels and with reference to legal requirements, transit, security and conditions of chemical and physical stability.
3. The development and expansion of a ward pharmacy service. The provision and development of services to the wards, including ward and clinical pharmacy services, stock control and MDA inspection.
4. To participate in and assist in the implementation and ongoing development of the Medication Safety Programme for LUH.
5. The maintenance of records for purchasing, quality control, compounding and dispensing to the standards required.
6. The provision of advice, as required, to medical and nursing staff on the proper and economic use of drugs and medicines including participation in schemes for the dissemination of information in relation to drugs and drug usage.
7. Participation in training rotations in various specialties such as aseptic compounding, dispensary cover, provision of Clinical Pharmacy Services at ward level, etc.
8. The supervision and management of any pharmacy intern or student pharmacy technician as assigned.
9. Participation in personal continuing education activities, to ensure continual professional development.
10. Participation in protocol and guideline development, quality initiatives, audit and service development.
11. The provision of lectures/in-services in the hospital for nursing, pharmacy and clinical staff and students and to participate in the development and expansion of drug information service and a continuing education programme.
12. To assist the Pharmacy Executive Manager, Deputy Pharmacy Executive Manager and/or Senior Pharmacist in the performance of his/her duties and responsibilities, as required.
13. Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc.
14. The post holder must maintain throughout the hospital, an awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities.
15. The post holder must demonstrate behaviour consistent with the values of Letterkenny University Hospitals and the Health Service Executive.
16. He/ she will participate in the pharmaceutical service as part of a professional, punctual and dedicated team.
17. He/she will help to create, promote and maintain open communications and healthy working relationships.
18. He/she will maintain the principles of equity, accountability and quality of service in daily work.
19. To support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service.
