(Part Time Equivalent to 50 to 80 days per year) The Company The Irish Organic Association (IOA) are the largest and longest serving organic certification body in Ireland, established in 1982 to certify, inspect and licence organic production, processing, retailing, importation and distribution. The IOA provides Organic Certification to operators wishing to grow, process, store, market, distribute, import or sell organic food and feed under current EU Organic regulations (EC 834/2007 & 889/2008). IOA holds ISO 17065 accreditation and is approved by the Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine and the UK Department of Environment Food & Rural Affairs to undertake organic certification.IOA inspectors carry out on-site audits/inspections of farm holdings, processing plants and aquaculture production sites. Inspectors’ are appointed by open and fair competition. Inspectors’ are expected to possess a combination of relevant educational background, inspection experience, and exposure to organic agriculture (where applicable). The Role/ Place of WorkWe are seeking a qualified Processing Inspector for Part time (variable) Inspection work in Dublin County and adjacent counties. You will work remotely in your assigned area and undertake processing inspections for operator certification at allocated organic processor sites, on an ongoing basis in accordance with the demands of the organisation. You will report to and liaise as required to the Certification and / or Quality Managers for task updates and to receive tasks or guidance. You may also be required to attend meetings either virtually or in person at the company office, as part of fulfilling your role.Detailed inspection of operations involves the preparation of processed products from crops and/or livestock including recipe formulation, storage of raw materials and finished product, production methods, plant and equipment, packaging, differentiation from non-organic products processed at the same site, and reconciliation of goods in and product out. Importation and distribution of organic products from third countries may form part of processing inspections. Inspectors’ may be required to conduct a detailed audit of production and financial records. Training, will be provided and will continue until the necessary level of competence is demonstrated as standard. Training and supervision will be an ongoing feature of your employment.Inspection TasksOn site processing inspections, including processing plants, on-farm processing and others for organic operators wishing to be licensed by the IOA Certification Scheme.Comparison of systems and practices in these businesses with the Organic Food and Farming Standards in Ireland plus amendments.Completion of an inspection report form for each inspection.Writing a detailed report of relevant items not covered by the inspection form.Making recommendations based on the inspection and the inspector’s knowledge of the StandardsRecording & classification of non-compliances and assessment of operator risk. Taking samples of produce/products in accordance with IOA procedures.Assisting with reviewing and updating the IOA Standards and quality documents as appropriate through meetings and electronic communications with Management.Participating in training provided by or on behalf of IOA in areas related to inspection duties as required.As determined by the CEO, attending events as a representative of IOA when required.Other appropriate Inspector related tasks as determined by the company. Key ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities of the Inspectors’ include:Providing a professional, knowledgeable, and consistent public face to applicants/operators.Accurately and consistently evaluating conformance with the Organic Food and Farming Standards plus amendments.Efficiently communicating with applicants, operators, the IOA office, and relevant IOA panels & committees. QualificationsEssentialPrior experience of inspections/ auditing National Framework of Qualifications Level 8 degree taken in Food Science or equivalentFull clean driving licenseInsured and taxed vehicle BeneficialPrior Experience and/ or knowledge. Be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of organic principles and production standards.
