Job Title: General Manager
Location: The Hill of Uisneach, Co. Westmeath, Ireland.
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: A competitive remuneration package will be on offer to the selected candidate.
David and Angela Clarke, owners and custodians of The Hill of Uisneach, are dedicated to preserving and sharing the heritage of this unique site and are delighted to appoint a General Manager who will help develop and manage this unique site.
About The Hill of Uisneach:
A sacred and historical site in the heart of Ireland, it is a place of profound cultural and spiritual significance and is currently on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list in collaboration with The Royal Sites. As the traditional centre of Ireland, it hosts the annual Bealtaine Fire Festival and offers visitors a connection to Irish heritage and the land. In 2024, we welcomed in the region of 60,000 visitors to our site.
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated General Manager to enhance our visitor experience, oversee the day-to-day operations of the site, manage on and offline promotions and advertising, work closely with all key stakeholders, and organise our festivals and events, one of which is the celebrated Bealtaine Fire Festival, while maintaining sensitivity to the site's origins and its deep connection to the land.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement strategies/business plans to improve the overall visitor experience.
2. Develop and manage new business opportunities.
3. Collaborate and manage site guides, educators, and partners to create engaging and informative tours.
4. Organise and oversee all aspects of each event on site including the annual Bealtaine Fire Festival, ensuring it reflects the cultural heritage and significance of the Hill of Uisneach.
5. Manage and create the site’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and growth.
6. Develop, manage, and implement marketing plans to increase visitor numbers and revenue.
7. Build and maintain relationships with local communities, businesses, and cultural organisations and attend appropriate meetings and events.
8. Work with heritage and conservation groups to ensure all activities are in line with preservation guidelines.
9. Manage all enquiries for all bookings.
Personal Specification:
1. Flexible and adaptable, with a passion for enhancing visitor experiences and promoting cultural heritage.
2. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills both internal and external.
3. Awareness of the local / regional / national heritage and tourism landscape.
4. Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in a cultural or heritage site.
5. Strong project management skills with a track record of organising successful events.
6. Excellent marketing skills both on and offline.
7. Experience in Grant applications.
8. Experience in setting and managing budgets.
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Competencies: Leadership, strategic thinking, drive and resilience, creativity and innovation, marketing and promotions, event planning, financial acumen, critical analysis, cultural sensitivity and awareness, organisational skills, and good communication.
Structure and Support:
The successful candidate will work closely with the site owners, report monthly to key stakeholders, and present quarterly to the owners. Support in the form of accounts, Health & Safety, HR, with some administrative and social media is available.
