Cork County Council is seeking a Chief Technician (Environmental) to join their laboratory service. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of technicians working to ISO 17025 standards, undertaking laboratory analysis and reporting test results in relation to drinking water, bathing areas, rivers, wastewaters, and other media.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supervise and train technician staff to ensure ongoing competency;
* Maintain laboratory instruments in good working order through regular maintenance and repairs;
* Prepare weekly work schedules and ensure completion of assigned tasks;
* Implement laboratory procedures and work programmes;
* Develop and validate methods for new laboratory instruments;
* Ensure health and safety protocols are maintained in the laboratory;
* Carry out quality audits and data review on a regular basis;
* Assist in investigating root cause analysis and resolution of non-conforming work;
* Serve as Health and Safety supervisor for the laboratory;
* Perform safety tour inspections as per directorate plan;
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Manager or Section Manager.

Laboratory staff are involved in investigation of pollution incidents, environmental awareness initiatives, input to planning & development function, and supporting environmental regulatory role.
