The Role
As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will support Cubic Telecom in respect of legal and strategic initiatives across our global footprint. The successful candidate will handle commercial contract negotiation and management, data protection, privacy, transactional activities, compliance, intellectual property, corporate and a diverse range of other legal matters. The role will report to the Director of Legal. This is a fixed term contract with possible permanency subject to review.
Responsibilities of this role:
Primary:
* Commercial: Review and negotiate complex enterprise customer sales and supplier agreements (SaaS and Information Technology) and provide legal input (for RFPs, existing business and new business), working collaboratively with the business and technology teams.
* Data Protection and Privacy: Leading and developing data protection compliance programs related to legal issues in product/SaaS development for technology companies, including strong familiarity with global data protection and data localisation requirements (DPIAs, AI Act, GDPR, EU digital reforms package, etc.).
* General Counselling: Ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services to the leadership teams and deputise for the Director of Legal where required and/or appropriate. Managing legal executives in key practice areas. Instructing external counsel.
* Project collaboration and management: Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.) with key roles in legal workstreams. Management of operational and key strategic decision-making workstreams across multiple internal departments.
Secondary:
* IPR: Maintain current understanding of best practices related to legal issues in product/SaaS development for technology companies.
* Telecoms compliance: Research, analyse and communicate legislative and regulatory developments that are likely to affect the work of Cubic Telecom and/or its regulatory landscape.
Minimum Requirements:
* A qualified lawyer with at least 4+ years post-qualification experience within private practice or in-house legal teams. Experience with B2B/SaaS products and/or telecommunications an advantage.
* Excellent negotiating and influencing skills, and a talent for non-confrontational, win-win negotiations.
* Wholly solution-focused attitude.
* Comfortable advising international businesses on multi-jurisdictional matters and working across different legal jurisdictions.
* Familiarity with international business culture.
* A vision for new work practices (i.e. AI tools) for improvement of the legal team operational model.
* Strong business acumen, pragmatic approach to problem solving, ability to rapidly assess potential risks and consequences of business and legal decisions and effectively counsel clients and internal stakeholders.
* Strong analytical and strategic skills; ability to drive issues to a quick resolution that factors in many non-legal variables, such as brand-risk, communications, government relations, tax, insurance, finance, and other business units.
* A natural drive to expand technical and product knowledge.
