Job DescriptionJob Title: Retail Officer Department: Operations Reporting to: Site Manager / Senior Operations ManagerAs a Retail Security Officer, you play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure shopping environment for customers and staff. Your primary responsibilities include preventing theft, deterring criminal activities, and providing a visible security presence within the store. You will work closely with store management and law enforcement to ensure the highest standards of security and loss prevention are maintained.Key Responsibilities;Loss Prevention & Security:Provide a strong, visible security presence to deter theft and anti-social behaviour.Monitor customer and staff activities to identify potential security risks.Conduct security checks and patrols to ensure all areas of the store are secure.Work alongside store management to implement effective theft prevention strategies.Identify and report any security concerns, including suspicious behaviour or unauthorized individuals.Incident Response:Respond promptly and professionally to incidents of theft, fraud, or disorderly conduct.Follow appropriate procedures for apprehending and detaining individuals when necessary, in compliance with legal and company guidelines.Accurately document and report security incidents to support investigations and legal proceedings.Liaise with Gardaí (Irish police) and other law enforcement agencies when required.Customer & Staff Safety:Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all customers and employees.Assist in emergency situations, including evacuations, in line with company procedures.Support retail staff in managing difficult customer situations professionally and safely.Team Collaboration & Training:Work closely with store teams to improve overall security awareness.Provide guidance to retail staff on how to recognize suspicious behavior and prevent stock loss.Participate in regular security briefings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices.Skills and Qualifications;Experience:Previous experience in retail security, loss prevention, or a similar role is desirable.Knowledge of theft prevention strategies and relevant security procedures is beneficial.Skills & Competencies:Strong observational skills with attention to detail.Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, customers, and law enforcement.High levels of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.Qualifications:Valid Private Security Authority (PSA) license (essential).Basic Guarding Skills - QQI Level 4.Minimum 6 months of industry experience.Basic IT skills.Certification in conflict management or physical intervention (advantageous but not required).Full EU Driving Licence (preferred but not essential).English Level B2 (oral & written).Occasional Duties:Additionally, hours outside of the store schedule may be required at the clients request.To read and understand the Quality systems, Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Value Statement, Quality Policy, and any other policy documents.Any reasonable and lawful additional duties asked of you by Management.Further Information:The Synergy Security Solutions will ensure that you will:Have the necessary training and resources to carry out your role effectively;Be provided with written documentation outlining your role and function, including any function that may be prescribed by regulation or legislation.Have clearly established performance reviews with pre-agreed measurable objectivesRequired tools and equipment to support your roleHave access to:o Internal assistance and support from the Synergy teamo External assistance if requiredo Training and development opportunities
