The AWS Direct Connect team delivers solutions that make it easy for customers to establish a dedicated network connection from their premises to the AWS cloud. These connections help to reduce network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections. AWS Direct Connect is currently available in more than 130 locations, which span nearly 70 cities in 30 different countries.
As a Network Development Manager for the AWS Direct Connect team, you will be responsible for managing AWS Direct Connect network infrastructure globally. Your job is to lead a team of 6+ highly skilled Network Development Engineers and deliver solutions that are always available, never constrain customers, and provide low and consistent latency. You will leverage your skills in strategy, network operations, design and planning, project management, recruiting and team development to build a high performing team that delivers an exceptional customer experience. You are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of AWS Direct Connect network infrastructure.
Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, strong project management and time management skills and has a successful track record of designing simple, scalable solutions and troubleshooting complex network problems, and delivering innovative solutions and complex projects on time. The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is essential. We are looking for someone who is ready to roll-up their sleeves and get going quickly. They should also stay up-to-date with the latest networking technologies and industry best practices. This position will be Hybrid, candidate will be expected to attend their assigned office a minimum of three days per week.

Key job responsibilities
Operational Excellence
As a manager within the Networking team you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. This includes creating sane processes and procedures to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects.
Operational Measurement and Optimization
As a Network Engineering manager you will be expected to drive quality into the metrics we report and to create mechanisms to assist us in focusing on the areas that give us the best ROI. This includes measurement of the Internet operational performance, availability, network capacity, trends, etc. You will drive and define processes that optimize our workflow and create efficiencies in how we operate to drive continual improvement.
Technical Leadership
As a manager of a highly technical team, which has responsibility for performance and operational availability of the Enterprise Network, you will be expected to have a deep knowledge of your area. As part of your role, you will be required to review and approve network changes for your team. Additionally, you will on occasion need to develop a detailed, low-level understanding of network issues that do occur and to be able to represent those issues at operational management review meetings.
Goal Setting and Delivery
You will directly own defining or refining and delivering strategic goals for your team. As part of this responsibility, you will be expected to communicate goals to the team, align the necessary resources, and communicate status to the wider leadership team.
Performance Management/Team Health
You will own all facets of performance and career management for the team. Regular one-on-one meetings with all team members are required. You will be expected to provide both technical and soft skills mentoring in order to maintain a well-rounded, world-class organization. This includes project management, quality audits and coordination of training sessions with senior-level engineers as well as day-to-day oversight of the team.
Recruiting and Hiring
You will hire quality personnel who not only fit the needs of the current organization but also will allow the team to scale with platform and service growth. You will coordinate with Amazon and external recruiting staff to evaluate potential candidates, participate in initial phone screens and provide relevant guidance and feedback during on-site interview loops. You will also be responsible for ensuring that proper training takes place for all new hires.
Automation
You will be heavily involved in developing automation, as well as setting our automation teams' roadmap, based upon identifying significant opportunities where automation can tackle volume, systemic or critical operational issues.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years in a technology role and 4+ years in a management role.
- Experience with large scale Enterprise networking, background in building, scaling and operating large-scale backbone networks.
- Experience contributing to the creation and implementation of high quality, high volume recruiting plans ·
- Experience representing your team/technical area to senior management
- Experience in building and managing a team of strong technical people and prior ownership of the operation of a mission-critical team is crucial to success.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. in Computer Science or four years’ equivalent experience in a large-scale enterprise environment is required with experience in either a Planning or Network Engineering role highly recommended.
